My friend...

Here's a quick update on what I've been working on during a busy few weeks in Washington, DC, Staten Island and Southern Brooklyn...
HIGHLIGHTS FROM THE HILL
I recently introduced three pieces of legislation aimed at holding NYCHA and owners of HUD-subsidized housing accountable for poor living conditions on their properties and to improve the quality of life for tenants. I will continue to meet with senior leadership from HUD to ensure the necessary fixes are made at Park Hill Apartments, Richmond Gardens Apartments, and the Stapleton Houses so residents are able to live in dignity.
Fentanyl is the leading cause of death for Americans ages 18-45, with the United States seeing the highest number of fentanyl-related deaths ever recorded between June 2020-June 2021. I've cosponsored several pieces of legislation that would hold fentanyl smugglers accountable for their role in the opioid epidemic and permanently schedule fentanyl analogs increasing criminal penalties.
IN THE DISTRICT
Malliotakis Announces $1 Million To Upgrade Staten Island Ferry Fleet
With over 70,000 riders per day and 22 million riders per year, our Staten Island Ferry system provides commuters and visitors with an efficient alternative to travel by bus, car, or subway. I'm pleased to see federal dollars return to New York City to support critical upgrades to our ferry fleet that will, in turn, allow our mariners to provide more reliable service for our community.
While I was in the district I was able to meet with a number of constituents and local organizations, including rallying to support the Asian-American community, meeting Muslim leaders in Brooklyn, celebrating Irish culture, and honoring small business owners with the Staten Island Chamber of Commerce.
I delivered an American flag that flew above the U.S. Capitol to the Guild for Exceptional Children, a Brooklyn organization serving individuals with developmental disabilities of all ages. I was joined by Korean War Veteran Andrew Sichenze, Executive Director Joseph Riley, staff, students & residents.
IN THE NEWS
‘Elections matter:’ Rep. Malliotakis fires back at feds’ consideration of safe injection sites
When former Mayor Bill de Blasio announced late last year that New York City would be the first in the nation to be home to safe injection sites, it was never clear if the city reached an agreement with the federal government.

Rep. Nicole Malliotakis was one of the first local officials to point to a federal court decision in Jan. 2021 against a similar operation in Philadelphia in a case that the Department of Justice (DOJ) brought under former President Donald Trump.
Malliotakis Reacts to Port Authority's Study on Widening the Outerbridge Crossing
Congresswoman Nicole Malliotakis issued the following statement in support of the Port Authority's announcement of its commissioning a new study to determine the feasibility of widening the Outerbridge Crossing.

“The bipartisan infrastructure bill that we passed in November provides a rare opportunity to fund the widening or replacement of the Outerbridge Crossing. I am happy to work with Representative Pallone of New Jersey to advocate for the necessary improvements to this 100-year-old bridge in a bi-partisan and bi-state manner to increase motor vehicle capacity and reduce traffic congestion. The study is a necessary first step to see our options, and I urge the Port Authority to make its completion a priority so necessary improvements can begin.”
