Here's a quick update on what I've been working on during a busy few weeks in Washington, DC, Staten Island and Southern Brooklyn...
HIGHLIGHTS FROM THE HILL
With the House and Senate adjourned for the year, Democrats announced President Biden's "Build Back Better" agenda is officially dead. This is exactly what I predicted would happen after the bipartisan infrastructure package was decoupled from this bloated socialist spending plan that would only further our country's inflation, supply chain, labor, and immigration crises.
After introducing legislation with Senator Tom Cotton that would prevent $450,000 settlement payments to illegal immigrants, the Biden Administration announced it's calling off plans to proceed with these payments. These settlement payments would have been a slap in the face to hardworking citizens and would have only further incentivized illegal migration.
This is our second border security victory in two weeks. Shortly after I and other Republicanshammeredthe Biden Administration for not resuming the Supreme Court ordered 'Remain in Mexico' policy, the policy was fully reinstated. Both of these victories are wins for taxpayers and proof that when Republicans stick together and fight we can stop bad policies from coming to fruition and protect the interests of American citizens.
In 2018, the Department of Justice committed to me that it would intervene if Mayor de Blasio proceeded with his illegal scheme to open heroin injection centers in New York City. Now that Mayor de Blasio has gone forward with these plans, I've called on the Biden Administration to take the same course of action. If they don't, I've introduced legislation to strip federal funds from entities that operate these unlawful facilities.
Following a meetingwith officials from the NYC Department of Education (NYCDOE), NYPD, Susan Wagner High School, and the Office of School Safety to address a number of recent incidents that have occurred at Susan Wagner High School, I led my local colleagues in sending a letter to incoming DOE Chancellor David Banks expressing concerns about school safety throughout New York City Schools.
