Here's a quick update on what I've been working on during a busy few weeks in Washington, DC, Staten Island and Southern Brooklyn...

HIGHLIGHTS FROM THE HILL

I joined House Republican Leader Kevin McCarthy and many of my colleagues to honor New York's finest at the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial for National Police Week.

In Congress, I will never stop fighting to give our police the tools they need to do their job.

Malliotakis Honors Law Enforcement Officers During National Police Week

I've been working with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in Washington, DC on multiple district projects that I've secured funds for including the East Shore Sea Wall, which will soon break ground, along with dredging in Great Kills Harbor and the Hudson River to accommodate recreational boats and cargo ships.

As the daughter of a Greek immigrant and a member of the House Committee on Foreign Affairs, it was a tremendous honor to walk the Prime Minister of my father's homeland, Kyria Mitsotakis, into the House Chamber for his Joint Address to Congress.

Following his address, I joined the Prime Minister for several meetings where we discussed issues important to our countries' relationship, including the need to bolster energy independence, Greece's plan to acquire F-35 fighter jets, the potential to supply Greece's military with retired U.S. Navy Ships, the war in Ukraine, and the reunification of Cyprus.

IN THE DISTRICT

I visited Staten Island University Hospital for a special Mother's Day announcement of $2 million in federal funds for the completion of its Integrated Women & Newborn Center. This is in addition to the recently announced funding for Richmond University Medical Center and Coney Island Hospital.

This is the first major upgrade the hospital has received since 1979, and it will modernize the unit, streamline processes, and allow for the delivery of 1,000 more babies every year.

I joined the Notre Dame Society in delivering over 12,000 pounds of food generously donated by Goya Foods to local Staten Island and Brooklyn food pantries. Nearly two dozen pantries in our community will benefit!

I submitted testimony to the New York City Water Board regarding its proposal to raise water rates by 4.9%, the largest increase in nearly a decade.

New Yorkers are struggling with record high prices at the pump, skyrocketing utility bills, higher-priced groceries, and burdensome costs of living. To usher in the largest water rate increase in eight years, amidst the economic turmoil we are currently facing is tone-deaf, shortsighted, and wrong. Read my testimony by clicking the button below.

To celebrate Memorial Day, I was proud to be out on Staten Island and Brooklyn paying tribute to our fellow Americans who made the ultimate sacrifice for our country, including the 13 servicemembers who were killed during the withdrawal from Afghanistan last year. Thank you to all our military men and women who bravely serve to preserve our great nation.

In 2020, New York state rolled out new criminal justice reform laws that eliminated cash bail and expanded pretrial release for several misdemeanor and felony charges.

Since that time, thousands of violent criminal defendants have been released back onto our streets, free to wreak havoc in our communities. With public safety in New York deteriorating by the day, enough is enough.
