My friend...

Here's a quick update on what I've been working on during a busy few weeks in Washington, DC, Staten Island and Southern Brooklyn...
HIGHLIGHTS FROM THE HILL
I recently paid tribute to WWII Veteran Isidore "Teddy" Bertone on the House floor. In 2020, I helped Teddy become a U.S. citizen and officially obtain his certificate of citizenship. Hear his story:
I had the pleasure of meeting with Ireland's Ambassador to the United States, Daniel Mulhall, in Washington, DC. We spoke at length about the ongoing war in Ukraine, Brexit, New York CIty's large Irish population, and ways to strengthen our countries' relationship.
In honor of Earth Day, I introduced the OWNER Act, legislation that returns revenue to New York State and gives counties like Richmond and Kings a revenue stream to invest in coastal protection, hurricane preparedness, and infrastructure.

To achieve energy independence we need diversification, and my legislation ensures communities like ours benefit both environmentally and economically from off-shore energy sources.
IN THE DISTRICT
I joined the Bread of Life Food Drive on Staten Island after facilitating a 10,000-pound donation from Goya Foods. For more than 30 years, the Notre Dame Club of Staten Island has brought our community together to fight food insecurity and help neighbors in need. I’m proud to have facilitated this donation that will directly benefit residents in our community and the organizations that go above and beyond to serve them!
It was a pleasure to meet with the Brooklyn and Staten Island winners of my office's Presidents' Day Essay contest. These future leaders shared great ideas on how to make our community and country a better place to live, work, and play. Each student should be extremely proud of their work - congratulations to all!
I welcomed new NYPD Staten Island Borough Commander Chief Gin Yee to our Staten Island office. We recently secured $2.9 million in funding for the NYPD to purchase new forensic equipment, protective equipment, and expand its K9 unit.

I will continue working to give our police the tools they need to more effectively do their jobs, keep criminals off our streets, and protect residents and visitors to our city.
In honor of National Parks Week, my office joined students from the Petrides School on Staten Island in a beach cleanup at Gateway National Recreation Area in Great Kills Park. Thank you to these students for their dedication to keeping our streets, parks, and beaches clean!
IN THE NEWS
Goodhue Center nets nearly $500K in federal funding for improvements
A New Brighton institution announced nearly half a million dollars in federal funding Thursday after receiving more than $50 million in city funds last year.

Malliotakis Says Expanding Gifted & Talented Classes Is the Right Move
Gifted & Talented programs maximize students’ full academic potential and accelerate the development of skills needed to be competitive in the real world,” said Congresswoman Malliotakis. “I’m pleased to see Mayor Adams reverse the previous Administration’s nonsensical decision to eliminate these programs.
‘A badge of honor’: Malliotakis among Russia-sanctioned members of Congress
Russia announced Wednesday that it would sanction hundreds of U.S. lawmakers as tensions continue to escalate with the European nation.

Rep. Nicole Malliotakis (R-Staten Island/Brooklyn) was among the 398 members of the House and Senate sanctioned in a pre-emptive response to another wave of American sanctions against Russia that President Biden’s administration announced on March 24.

“Today I was permanently sanctioned by Russia for my support of the people of Ukraine and outspoken opposition to Putin’s unlawful and inhumane invasion,” she tweeted. “I’ll consider it a badge of honor.”
