My friend,

Here's a quick update on what I've been working on in Washington, DC, Staten Island and Southern Brooklyn...
HIGHLIGHTS FROM THE HILL
At our Coronavirus Subcommittee hearing, I had a chance to question Drs. Anthony Fauci and Rochelle Walensky about the reopening of schools. The CDC has recommended schools return to in-person instruction five days a week, however, it has not resumed in New York City's school system leading to a large burden on parents and creating a mental crisis among our students.

President Biden said he wanted America's schools reopened within his first 100 days. We've now passed the deadline and I urge the Administration to speak with Mayor de Blasio and New York City school leadership to get our schools fully reopened.
I was proud to join 32 of my colleagues in founding the bipartisan SALT Caucus to push for the reinstatement of the State and Local Tax Deduction. Restoring the SALT deduction would be a tremendous relief for the people of Staten Island, Southern Brooklyn and the middle-class families across New York State who are struggling to get by during this pandemic. We're finding a way to get this done in Congress to get more dollars back into the pockets of our constituents.
To celebrate Earth Day, I introduced the Urban Forests Act of 2021, bipartisan legislation that promotes the creation, enhancement and upkeep of urban forests in the United States.

Urban forests provide a number of benefits to communities, including carbon sequestration, a reduction in air pollution and noise, conservation of energy for homeowners, habitation for animals and creation of forestry and manufacturing jobs. As our country becomes a more urbanized nation, it's critically important that we continue to invest in green infrastructure projects that add essential economic and environmental value to our communities.
I joined my Republican colleagues and former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo to push the Republican Study Committee's 'Maximum Pressure Act,' legislation that empowers Congress to ensure a successful, long-term Iran strategy by:

  • Stopping the Biden administration from re-entering the Iran Deal and providing Congressional review;
  • Codifying the Trump administration’s maximum pressure campaign, which is a proven successful strategy;
  • Expanding Iran sanctions, making it the toughest sanctions ever introduced in Congress on Iran.
IN THE DISTRICT
I joined members of the International Longshoremen's Association, Local 824 (Manhattan), Local 1814 (Brooklyn), as well as other affected small business owners who provide food and travel services, in calling on the CDC to revoke its current No Sail Order and allow cruise lines to resume domestic operations.
Thanks to our continued advocacy, the CDC announced it remains committed to the resumption of domestic passenger cruise operations by mid-summer! It's been more than one year since passenger cruise ships sailed out of New York City, impacting the livelihoods of longshoremen, ground transportation operators, hotel, restaurant, and retail workers, travel agents, and the many other businesses that service cruise ships. I'm glad to see the CDC is updating its guidelines to help get our economy back on track.
I had a great time joining the NYPD's 68th Precinct Little League for opening day in Bay Ridge. After missing a year of athletics, the kids were thrilled to be outside with their friends playing ball!
IN THE NEWS
My Op-ed: Court packing legislation straight out of Maduro's playbook
Since the start of this new Congress, Democrats have introduced several pieces of legislation that threaten our freedom and Democracy. The supposedly “moderate” Democrats who promised to “reach across the aisle” and work in a “bipartisan” manner are shutting down debate, introducing measures that exert unrelenting government control over private business, extending the federal government’s reach further into our wallets and gradually introducing their socialist ideology into our everyday lives in the dead of night.

Although radical, these policies pale in comparison to their latest push: packing the U.S. Supreme Court.
Malliotakis calls on DOJ to release docs related to alleged Saudi role in 9/11
Staten Island Rep. Nicole Malliotakis is among five Republican lawmakers pressing the Biden administration to publicly release FBI and CIA documents that they say may disclose the Saudi government’s possible involvement in the 9/11 terror attacks.

Malliotakis, and four other Republican members of Congress, sent a letter Wednesday on behalf of 9/11 victims’ families to Attorney General Merrick Garland calling on the Department of Justice to declassify and publish the reports.
Exclusive — Rep. Nicole Malliotakis: I Told Joe Biden ‘He Has to Go to the Border’ and ‘Gave Him My Card’
Rep. Nicole Malliotakis (R-NY) told Breitbart News on Thursday that she asked President Joe Biden to visit the U.S.-Mexico border and support Customs and Border Protection agents after the president’s first address to a joint session of Congress on Wednesday night.

“There was an opportunity to speak to the president and so I took it,” Malliotakis said on SiriusXM’s Breitbart News Daily with host Alex Marlow.“It was important thing I had to tell him, that he has to go to the border.”

“[Biden] has to see what I saw when I was there a couple of weeks ago,” she continued. “He needs to speak with Customs and Border Patrol agents, and he needs to support them. He said that they were working on something, and then he really didn’t tell me what they were.”
