Here's a quick update on what I've been working on during a busy few weeks across Staten Island and Southern Brooklyn...

HIGHLIGHTS FROM THE DISTRICT

BIPARTISAN EFFORT TO EXTEND HEALTHY START PROGRAM

Over the past two years, this program has delivered more than $2 million to the Community Health Center of Richmond in our district to support women, infants, and families in low-income communities. Our bipartisan legislation will continue the authorization of the Healthy Start program, which has successfully improved health outcomes for new mothers and reduced infant mortality rates and other adverse perinatal outcomes nationwide. I look forward to continuing working to get this legislation across the finish line.

ANNOUNCING $42.7 MILLION TO IMPROVE FORT HAMILTON OPERATIONS

As Fort Hamilton Army Base celebrates its bicentennial, I’m proud to announce a $42 million dollar investment that will help strengthen its mission and readiness for its next 200 years. The funding will cover essential infrastructure needs, including grounds maintenance, electrical and plumbing repairs, road work, pest management services, HVAC and boiler maintenance, as well as other improvements to prevent disruptions to the base’s critical operations.

WELCOMING THE NEW 62ND PRECINCT COMMANDING OFFICER

I join the Bath Beach community in welcoming Captain Mohammed S. Islam, a 17 year veteran of the NYPD, as the newly appointed Commanding Officer of Brooklyn’s 62nd Precinct. We look forward to working with him again as he previously worked at the 68th precinct!

STATEN ISLAND SEAWALL UPDATE

The first phase of Staten Island’s East Shore Seawall, a critical resiliency project for our community, is currently underway! Watch below to learn more!

NYCHA NEW LANE SENIOR RESIDENCE FAMILY DAY PICNIC

I stopped by NYCHA New Lane Senior Residence for their annual family day picnic. As the daughter of aging senior citizens, I’m committed to protecting Medicare and Social Security & am proud to have delivered the senior tax deduction that will benefit 51 million seniors across America!

NATIONAL NIGHT OUT & VISIT NYPD'S K-9 UNIT

I visited the NYPD K-9 unit in Brooklyn where I am proud to have secured millions of dollars in federal funding for our NYPD for vehicles, equipment, protective gear, and K-9s.

I was happy to celebrate these achievements and to support our brave police officers with the community at this month's National Night Out Against Crime in Brooklyn & Staten Island.

WELCOMED SOCIAL SECURITY COMMISSIONER FRANK BISIGNANO TO STATEN ISLAND

I was proud to support the Social Security Fairness Act & help draft the tax deduction that eliminates taxes on Social Security for 88% of seniors. Now I’m working with Social Security Commissioner Frank Bisignano to improve wait times for both in person appointments & calls. Our district was the first one he visited with a member of Congress and I won’t stop working to preserve this important program and ensure easy access to benefits for recipients.

STOPPING BY THE RICHMOND COUNTY FAIR

A beautiful weekend at the Richmond County Fair in Historic Richmondtown on Staten Island, with live music, food-eating contests, rides, games, and great vendors!

BIPARTISAN LEGISLATION TO KEEP FILM/TV PRODUCTION IN USA

I joined Rep. Judy Chu (CA-28) in introducing bipartisan legislation aimed at keeping film and television production here in the USA. New York City is a major entertainment hub with studios in both Brooklyn & Staten Island creating jobs & economic activity.

DISCUSSING FUTURE OF AMERICAN WOMEN’S HISTORY MUSEUM WITH PRESIDENT TRUMP

I was pleased to meet with President Donald Trump about the future of the Smithsonian American Women's History Museum he authorized as we continue building support for our bipartisan legislation to now get it built on the National Mall!
