My friend...

Here's a quick update on what I've been working on during a busy few weeks in Washington, DC, Staten Island and Southern Brooklyn...
HIGHLIGHTS FROM THE HILL
If we learned anything from the September 11 attacks, it's that our federal agencies must be diligent in screening passengers to ensure those flying don't pose a terrorist or criminal threat to themselves or other passengers on board. That's why I've introduced the Crime Doesn't Fly Act, legislation that prohibits TSA from accepting warrants for the arrest or deportation of illegal immigrants as valid proof of identification at aviation security checkpoints.

Congresswoman calls for probe into ‘ThriveNYC’
Less than a week after Michelle Go’s subway shoving death, allegedly at the hands of a crazed vagrant, Rep. Nicole Malliotakis is calling for an investigation into the city’s $1.5 billion ThriveNYC program — which was supposed to help the mentally ill.

The Staten Island Republican urged the city Department of Investigation to probe “any waste, fraud or abuse carried out within ThriveNYC since its 2015 launch.”
I recently visited with leadership from USCG Sector New York and the need for housing upgrades was one of the main issues brought to my attention. In Congress, I've delivered on my promise to support them by securing $5 million in federal funds for them from the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act. These funds will be used to make safety, habitability, and quality of life upgrades to 154 legacy housing units at their Fort Wadsworth base.
I’m happy to continue the tradition of hosting my annual Presidents' Day essay contest for elementary school students while in Congress. This is a great way for students to become civically engaged and learn how they can better serve their communities. To learn more about how to participate, click below.
I met with leadership from the Staten Island VA Medical Clinic and hosted a roundtable with veterans from all across New York's 11th Congressional District. I'm dedicated to continuing to improve the quality of care for veterans in need and cutting through bureaucratic red tape for those who've honorably served our nation.
IN THE NEWS
GOP congress members from NY back Mayor Adams’ bid to toughen bail law
Malliotakis, who is the only House Republican from the city, representing Staten Island and southern Brooklyn, also put out her own statement on Adams’ blueprint to crack down on illegal guns and violent crime.

The congresswoman said she was “pleased” Adams is taking action to reinstate a unit to specifically go after gangs and gun violence in the city, add more cops to patrol subways, and seek changes to the “disastrous bail law and the ‘Raise the Age’ law that has become more like a gang recruitment act.” The latter law treats 16- and-17- year-olds as juveniles for serious crimes.

Malliotakis said more needs to be done to aid people roaming the streets who are severely mentally ill.
Malliotakis urges mayor to resolve contract dispute with S.I. Ferry union
The borough’s congressional representative has joined the fight to help secure a new contract for Staten Island Ferry workers.

On Tuesday, Rep. Nicole Malliotakis (R-Staten Island/South Brooklyn) penned a letter to Mayor Eric Adams, imploring him to resolve a longstanding contract dispute between New York City and the Marine Engineers’ Beneficial Association (MEBA), the union that represents the captains, assistant captains, mates, chief engineers and marine engineers on the Staten Island Ferry.

The union has been fighting the city for over 10 years for a “fair and respectful” new contract, with workers not having received a single wage increase in over a decade.
