My friend,

Here's a quick update on what I've been working on in Washington, DC, Staten Island and Southern Brooklyn...
HIGHLIGHTS FROM THE HILL
In response to Secretary of State Blinken's directive authorizing and encouraging all U.S. embassies overseas to display 'Black Lives Matter' flags and banners, last week I introduced the Stars and Stripes Act of 2021. The American flag is a beacon of freedom and hope for oppressed peoples around the world; it should be the primary flag flown above our embassies and that is what my legislation seeks to accomplish. The Administration's directive is an insult to those who made the ultimate sacrifice for our flag and our nation.

I joined House Republican Whip Steve Scalise and over 200 members of the Republican Conference in calling on Speaker Pelosi to direct her committee chairs to join House Republicans in investigating the origins of COVID-19.  According to U.S. intelligence sources, three researchers from China’s Wuhan Institute of Virology fell ill with symptoms consistent with COVID-19 and sought hospital care in November 2019, prompting major concerns regarding the virus’ origins. The Administration and intelligence community must demand transparency, access to lab records and answers from the Chinese Communist Party and the United States should lead the charge.
IN THE DISTRICT
I attended Blessing of the Bikes at St. Athanasius church in Bensonhurst and presented Monsignor David Cassato and parishioners with an American flag flown over the United States Capitol after their flag was sadly set on fire by a vandal.
I joined Richmond County District Attorney Michael McMahon, local Rabbis, elected officials, members of the NYPD and community leaders that make up the Hate Crime Task Force, in forcefully condemning the recent spike in hate crimes committed against Asians and members of the Jewish community in New York City. People need to be mindful of the things they say on social media and in groups. We need to set an example for New Yorkers and our fellow Americans.
Thank you to everyone in our Staten Island and Southern Brooklyn communities who came out to honor the military men & women this weekend who made the ultimate sacrifice to preserve our freedoms and liberties. We truly are the land of the free because of the brave. God Bless America!
