My friend,

Here's a quick update on what I've been working on in Washington, DC, Staten Island and Southern Brooklyn...
HIGHLIGHTS FROM THE HILL
In recognition of National Police Week, I spoke on the House Floor to honor New York Police Department (NYPD) officer Alyssa Vogel, fallen NYPD officer Anastasios Tsakos and warned my colleagues not to repeat New York City policies that have led to skyrocketing crime and diminished morale among the NYPD.

Undoubtedly, the City Council’s decision to cut the NYPD budget by $1 billion and the Governor’s neglectful bail reform policy have led to this rise in crime. April 19 through April 25 last month saw an increase in shootings of over 250 percent with 50 people shot compared to 14 last year. If the Mayor isn’t going to allow the NYPD to do its job, the feds should step in to protect residents, get criminals off the street and get this growing problem under control.
I joined House Republican Leader Kevin McCarthy and many of my Republican colleagues at the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial to honor the law enforcement officers who sacrificed their lives protecting their communities. Take a moment to thank a police officer this week, especially the brave men & women of the NYPD!
IN THE DISTRICT
I toured and met with leadership from several Brooklyn organizations, including the SAFE Foundation, Sephardic Community Center and Sephardic Bikur Holim. From community programs for children and seniors to putting on food pantries and providing substance abuse rehabilitation, these organizations provide critical services for those who reside in New York's 11th Congressional District.
I was also honored to attend the Change in Command Ceremony on Staten Island for the U.S. Coast Guard Station in New York City. Thank you Captain Jason Tama for your service and congratulations to Captain Zeita Merchant on your new position as Sector Commander. Our office looks forward to working with you!

My Op-ed: Biden & Harris Cannot Ignore The Crisis They Created
Reps. Nicole Malliotakis, Ann Wagner and Kat Cammack all visited the Donna Migrant Facility in McAllen, TX, on two separate congressional delegations to McAllen, TX, in April. Their conversations, experiences and observations from their trips are detailed in this piece.
Malliotakis talks border, infrastructure with Biden after his first address to Congress
Rep. Nicole Malliotakis had some face time with President Joe Biden after his first address to Congress Wednesday night.

She said that they spoke about the ongoing humanitarian crisis at the nation’s southern border, and plans for addressing the nation’s infrastructure needs.

“I urged him to go to the border, to see what I saw, to hear what I heard,” Malliotakis (R-Staten Island/South Brooklyn) said. “This is something that is affecting the entire nation.”
Rep. Nicole Malliotakis asks feds to help restore law and order in NYC
GOP Congresswoman Nicole Malliotakis has demanded President Biden and Attorney General Merrick Garland send the feds to Gotham to help the city in its losing battle against rising crime.

“We urge you to deploy additional law enforcement officers to New York to assist our police force until our communities no longer face this daily and growing threat of gun violence,” the freshman Staten Island lawmaker wrote in a May 7 letter to both men she shared with The Post.
Rep. Malliotakis requests over $11M in funding for Snug Harbor, St. George Theatre and other district projects
“Members of Congress know their districts better than federal bureaucrats,” said Malliotakis. “By directly appropriating funding for particular projects, it ensures money returns to the district where it’s needed most. Whether it be our hospitals that deliver critical health care, our non-profit organizations that offer culture and essential services or our NYPD that provide public safety, these organizations play a vital role in our community and need support after suffering cuts to their budgets over the past year,” she continued.
