New Chamber of Commerce      Building Approved

Electors in attendance at the July 19 Special Town Meeting authorized the town board to allow the Chamber of Commerce to replace its existing building with a new structure entirely at Chamber expense.  The town board was also authorized to enter into a long-term land/building lease with the Chamber.  Construction of the new building is to be complete by December 31, 2018.
Facilities Assessment
Project on Schedule

Funktion Design Studio, the consulting firm contracted with by the town board, has completed its study of the Red Brick Schoolhouse and Community Center.  The board has received the following recommendation for utilization of these buildings to meet present and future space needs of the town.

  1. Renovate the 1944 portion of the school to preserve the history of the building and the town and to provide storage and meeting space.
  2. Demolish the 1961 addition to the school.
  3. Demolish the existing Community Center.
  4. Build a new town hall and community center with an accessibility addition linking the new building with the school house.
  5. Site development to include a new entry drive between the new facility and the existing ball field, service drive along the east, new well, septic and grease separation systems, new entry sidewalk, additional parking and storm water.

The projected cost for this proposal ranges from $3.8 to $4.3 million.

However, the above cost is based on more than 26,000 square feet of needed space as defined by community input. The Community Center currently provides just over 13,000 square feet of space.  Another nearly 11,000 square feet in the school house is currently not being used, but is assumed to be needed.

The next step in the process will be a determination by the town board of realistic space needs.  Something more than 11,000 but less than 26,000 square feet will likely be appropriate. That decision will be followed by the consultant's reconsideration of cost.

More to come - we will keep you informed as this continues to unfold.  The goal at this point is for the board to conduct a binding referendum in April as part of the spring election.

August Town Board Meeting Rescheduled

The upcoming regular monthly meeting of the town board has been changed from August 14 to August 16, at 6:30pm.

Agendas for all regular meetings include an opportunity for public comment near the beginning of the meetings.  Property owners and residents are welcome to share ideas, complaints, compliments or whatever is on their minds.  While Wisconsin open meeting laws prohibit the board from responding  to public comments pertaining to topics not on the agenda, the board listens to public comments and considers appropriate responses as future agenda items.

We hope to see you on August 16.
