The Acting Company, along with many of our peer institutions, received notice on May 2nd that our contract with the National Endowment for the Arts will be terminated at the end of the month. This grant was to underwrite our national tour of August Wilson’s Two Trains Running in repertory with Christina Anderson’s modern verse translation of The Comedy of Errors.

As a national institution that serves audiences in dozens of communities across the US, support from the National Endowment for the Arts was particularly meaningful. Over five decades we have played in small towns, big cities, on college campuses and on Native American Reservations. At every tour stop, student matinee, educational workshop, in-class performance and post-show discussion, we witness firsthand the transformative impact of beloved classics and new dramas performed in repertory.

Your care for The Acting Company and voice as our advocate means the world to us. The loss of federal support risks a radical reduction in artistic output that will weaken our industry’s ability to employ artists. But we will not allow it to diminish our investment in actors, directors, designers, playwrights, audience members and students.

Finally, we are deeply grateful for the hard work, dedication, and advocacy of the staff at the National Endowment for the Arts past and present. We believe that their on-going support for the arts remains vital in lifting the voices and creativity of our nation’s artists.

With sincere thanks,

The Acting Company
