Welcome to the D5 community newsletter

Dear Neighbor,

Welcome to the District 5 (D5) monthly newsletter — and thank you for reading our very first edition!

I’m honored to serve as your D5 Council Member and deeply grateful for your support. Since stepping into office, I’ve enjoyed meeting so many of you — from neighbors and school staff to local organizations and community leaders — all working hard to make Anaheim a better place for everyone.

Over the past few months, I’ve had the opportunity to:

• Visit several schools to connect with teachers and staff and learn about the incredible work they’re doing for the students and Anaheim families.

• Participate in city programs like the Career Connections Unlimited Program and the Bright Girls Program.

• Attend community events, including the Black History Month Parade, activities at community and senior centers, Posadas, and Día de Reyes Magos, in collaboration with local organizations.

• Partner with Katella High School to help host their first-ever resource fair.

• Take part in ribbon-cutting ceremonies for new businesses.

• Join groundbreaking events for new and improved parks, fire station, and SR-91 (SR-57 to SR-55) Improvement Project

• Help South Junior High secure a crossing guard — an important step forward for student safety.

• Host my first “Coffee with the Council Member,” a great opportunity to connect with and hear directly from residents.

• Collaborate with fellow council members on key decisions, including the purchase of the Tampico Motel to create affordable housing for young adults, and unanimously support Assembly Bill 91 to ensure Middle Eastern and North African (MENA) communities are accurately represented in California’s demographic data.

These are just a few highlights since taking office. I’m here to listen, learn, and serve — and I look forward to connecting with even more of you in the months ahead as I continue working on your behalf.

This month, we honor several important observances: Mental Health Awareness Month, Older Americans Month, Military Appreciation Month, Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month, National Stroke Awareness Month, Mother’s Day, and Memorial Day, when we remember and honor those who gave their lives in service.
