District 5 Community Newsletter

Dear Neighbor,

Happy Fall!

It’s been a meaningful few weeks here in Anaheim. I recently joined neighbors, Anaheim Police, Neighborhood Services, the Library, and several community organizations for a neighborhood barbecue focused on strengthening community relationships and sharing local resources. I also had the privilege of visiting Benito Juarez Elementary, where a third-grade class invited me to speak about the role of the City Council. Both experiences reflect what I value about public service—creating opportunities to engage with residents of all ages and strengthen our shared sense of community.

Last week I attended the 2025 League of California Cities Annual Conference and Expo in Long Beach, where city leaders from across California are coming together to share ideas, explore innovative solutions, and discuss policies that strengthen our communities. I’m proud to represent Anaheim and to collaborate with colleagues from across the state to bring back fresh perspectives and opportunities that benefit our residents.

I hope to see you at our District 5 meeting on Wednesday, October 15. Thank you for staying engaged and for being part of what makes Anaheim strong.

With gratitude,

Snapshots in the Community

Kettle Motor Hotel comes down — the fifth motel demolished since 2020 in a neighborhood revitalization initiative.

Great questions and curious minds while talking City Council with an awesome group of 3rd graders.

A successful day of care and community at the Anaheim Health Fair.

District 5 Community Open House

District Community Meetings have a new name and look! We are now hosting Community Open Houses.

Join us at our D5 Community Open House on Wednesday, October 15! Feel free to drop by any time between 5-7 p.m. at Katella High School: 2200 E Wagner Avenue

Enjoy treats on us from D5’s very own Carrusel Bakery Co. and discuss the topics that matter most to you, including homelessness, traffic safety near schools, code enforcement and more.

Our Next Police Chief

Anaheim is searching for our next police chief, and we want to hear from you!

Join the conversation and help shape the future of our city's safety and leadership.

Share your priorities in by emailing the recruiter, gary@publicsectorsearch.com or attend an upcoming community meeting listed below.

The recruitment comes with the pending retirement of Chief Rick Armendariz, who continues to lead the Anaheim Police Department during the recruitment and transition.

Chief Armendariz has led the Anaheim Police Department since 2023 and served as our department's deputy chief for more than four years.

Let's work together to find the best leader for Anaheim's Police Department and our community.

Anaheim to Host 2027 Women's Volleyball World Championship Final

Anaheim has been selected to host in 2027 the final of the first ever Women's Volleyball World Championships held in North America in what the head of the sport's international governing body's marketing company described as "a landmark moment for volleyball."

Citing Anaheim's long history with the sport and its Olympic future, the Federation of International Volleyball awarded the Honda Center and OCVibe the final rounds of the 2027 tournament, which will also include pool play and Round of 16 games that will be played at four yet-to-be confirmed cities around the United States and Canada, the FIVB said.

We are excited to welcome people from around the world to the Honda Center for this incredible experience!

Please note: The area surrounding Honda Center is undergoing major transformation with the development of OCVIBE. As a result, expect changes to parking availability and traffic patterns. Honda Center general parking is now available at onsite lots and garages, including the newly opened Katella Garage and Cerritos Garage. Please note that Douglass Road, between Katella Avenue and Stanley Cup Way, is permanently closed.

City Program Spotlight

Neighborhood Watch is a great way for neighbors to get to know each other and work together, get trained to recognize and report suspicious activities in your neighborhood, implement crime prevention techniques such as home security and security through environmental design and enlist the active participation of citizens in cooperation with law enforcement to reduce crime in your community.

If you would like more information on how to get involved and start a Neighborhood Watch, please contact the Crime Prevention Specialist for District 5.
