This evening at a special meeting of the Anaheim City Council, I joined Mayor Harry Sidhu and my council colleagues in unanimously proclaiming a state of emergency within the city of Anaheim. This action is preparatory and ensures access to state and federal resources. I also have complete confidence in Anaheim’s city manager and our senior city staff, and this measure gives us the flexibility to allocate city resources quickly where they are needed.
Our action shows that our city takes the threat of coronavirus seriously and that we are empowering our excellent and expert city staff to take steps necessary to protect our residents. In addition to tonight’s action, we have also activated the city’s Emergency Operations Center, led by Anaheim Fire Chief Pat Russell. We will also continue to work with the OC Health Care Agency, which is our county’s lead agency, to guide city policy to protect everyone’s health and safety.
We are leading the way on communicating updates with our residents in real time through our Anaheim Ready website
. I urge residents to also follow the city’s communication channels on
For residents in District 6, let’s come together as a community as we face unknowns in the coming days and weeks. Please be kind to one another. Don’t hoard food or other necessities. Be assured that your Anaheim city water is safe, and there are no concerns about coronavirus being transmitted through properly treated water. Finally, help us identify seniors and others in the community who may need a helping hand.
While it is difficult during this crisis to look the future, Anaheim is an incredible community and we will persevere. I join Mayor Sidhu in working with our city’s stakeholders and economic drivers so we are ready for the recovery.
