ANAWIM & THE BEACON LAUNCH RECOVERY CENTER

Anawim Housing and The Beacon have partnered to establish a new non-profit organization that will expand pathways to recovery for people affected by substance use: the Full Circle Recovery Community Center (Full Circle RCC). The recovery resource center will be launched in three locations across Iowa: Des Moines, Sioux City, and Council Bluffs.

Full Circle RCC will provide peer-based recovery support services, applying policy advocacy, public education, and more. The recovery community center will offer emotional, practical, and information support for individuals and families who are affected by substance use.

ANAWIM HOUSING PARTNERS WITH UCS HEALTHCARE

Anawim Housing is excited to be partnering with UCS Healthcare to bring their mobile healthcare clinic to a central location close to many Anawim Housing residents, along with their neighbors and any guests. The goal is to help healthcare become easier and more accessible for those who need it – removing barriers of transportation, appointments, or insurance, which would directly benefit our program tenants. For the next six months, the program will be piloted at this same location every third Thursday of the month! Individuals can receive free healthcare screenings – no insurance required.

Our program team refer residents to clinics such as UCS Healthcare for mental health or substance use evaluations. The mobile medical unit conducts STD testing, mental health and substance evaluations, physical exams, and small medical procedures.

Stop by the location below on the third Thursday of the next six months for accessible healthcare:

MAY: MENTAL HEALTH AWARENESS MONTH

Mental health plays a pivotal role in our overall well-being.

For the month of May, Anawim Housing will be posting to all social media channels showcasing different aspects of mental health issues: from statistics of mental health from the effects of COVID-19, the connection between homelessness and mental health, to effects of not receiving treatment for mental illness.

NAMI, National Alliance of Mental Illness, Iowa, provides information and local resources for Iowans affected by mental illness. Nami also provides opportunities for those interested in volunteering or donating to helping those with mental illness,
