A heartfelt thank you to all who joined and supported us on Nov. 2nd for the We Empower Families ThanksGIVING event! We cannot do the work we do without your support and this event was a wonderful way to celebrate our mission and share about the important work being done to help individuals experiencing homelessness in our community.

Thank you to our Event Sponsors, our Board of Directors, our WEF planning committee, and our Staff who all helped make this a beautiful and charitable event. Event was hosted at Mainframe Studios, with catering by Tangerine and photography by Think Photo Lab.

The Monarch Apartments and Permanent Supportive Housing
As part of this year's event, we shared the following video. In this video we share about Anawim's conversion of an old Days Inn Hotel on Merle Hay Road into 40 units of Permanent Supportive Housing for individuals experiencing long-term homelessness.

There is an increasing financial need at Anawim Housing.
In the past two years, we have experienced a decline in donations while we have also seen an increase in cost to serve and maintain people in housing.

To provide Permanent Supportive Housing for the 390+ individuals we serve across central Iowa, we must not only apply for grant funding, but fundraise to support those programs. 51% of the cost to operate our programs is covered by grant funding. That leaves a remaining 49% that is a direct cost to our organization.

To meet the cost, we need you. Your gift helps us continue to meet the growing need for services in a time of increasing financial need.
100% of your gift directly supports our programs and services. We cannot meet the rapidly growing need for increased housing and services in our community without your help.

COLLECTING DONATIONS OF HOUSEHOLD ESSENTIALS
Nov. 17th - Dec. 15th
Starting next week, November 27th - December 15th, Anawim is hosting our Home is Everything Gift Drive to collect new or gently used household essentials to be gifted to individuals and families moving into housing after experiencing homelessness.

Many who move into our Permanent Supportive Housing programs come to Anawim with very little - sometimes only the clothes on their back. Your gift of a household essential helps provide a sense of home, ownership and comfort on their move-in day.
We've made it easy to give! Shop our online Target or Amazon Gift Registries to have our highest need items shipped directly to the Anawim office. Click LEARN MORE for links to our online registries.

Highest need items include new or gently used:
  • Full/Queen size bedding: sheets and comforters
  • Standard size pillows and pillow cases
  • Dishware: plates, cereal bowls, cups
  • Cookware: pots, pans, cookie sheets
  • Silverware
  • Bath towels
  • Vacuums
  • Small kitchen appliances: toasters, microwaves, coffee pots, crockpots
  • Laundry baskets/laundry detergent
  • Cleaning supplies
  • Personal hygiene products: soap, shampoo, body wash, etc.

THANKSGIVING MEALS DELIVERED TO ANAWIM PROGRAM TENANTS
Yesterday our program team helped hand deliver turkeys and Thanksgiving dinner fixings to residents in our Permanent Supportive Housing programs to help ensure everyone has a warm holiday meal this Thanksgiving.

A big thank you to our friends at Journey Church for graciously donating these Thanksgiving meals for our program tenants, year after year. These holiday meal baskets mean so much to our residents.
