On a recent visit with my sister, Martha, I enjoyed a cool Florida morning as I gazed across the still waters of the lake outside her screened porch. The glassy water reflected the pastels of the sunrise, the tall trees of the shoreline and the clouds drifting across the sky. A great blue heron gracefully glided across the lake, occasionally flapping its giant wings. Without a ripple marring the surface, the lake became a mirror of everything surrounding it.
Psalm 46:10 instructs us to "Be still and know that I am God." It is easy to become distracted and anxious. It is especially ironic that in a season when we are celebrating the birth of our Savior that we can feel overwhelmed with the added demands of the holiday season. But in the midst of our daily chaos, God lovingly instructs us to "Be still".
Be still and know His goodness. Be still and know His love. Be still and know His truth. Be still and know His faithfulness. Be still and know His grace. Be still and know His joy. Be still and know His strength. Be still and know His hope. Be still and know His peace.
