Anchors & Attitudes

Dear Sister in Christ,

In these past few months, have you felt tossed about in tumultuous seas with waves of change sometimes sweeping you off your feet?  You are not alone!  Like David in Psalms, sometimes we cry out, "Why is my soul downcast?  Why is my soul so disturbed within me?"

We need a reliable anchor for our souls to keep them steadfast and secure in these challenging, confusing times.  It is frightening to be in a boat, throw out an anchor and discover that your anchor is slipping.  As the anchor isn't grounded in something solid, your boat is now being driven by the wind and currents toward dangerous rocks.

Noah Webster's 1828 dictionary lists several definitions for the word "anchor" including: an instrument for holding a ship or vessel "at rest" in water; a strong shank; that which gives stability or security; that on which we place dependence for safety.

David found such an anchor as he declared to himself, "Put your hope in God, for I will yet praise Him, my Savior and my God!" (Psalm 42:5) Like the writer of Hebrews, David discovered this "hope was an anchor for his soul, firm and secure" (Hebrews 6:19).  David chose an attitude of praise in his moment of disappointment and discouragement.  Instead of gazing at the rising, chaotic waters, David focused on the character and goodness of God.  He chose to worship his Savior God.  By changing his focus, David was "at rest" in churning water, instead of inwardly churning with doubt and despair.

Sometimes when our anchor is slipping, we need our Anchored Sisters!  Alone, we can become too weary, too overwhelmed.  We need Christian sisters to help us haul up our slipping anchors and ground them in God's truth and love.  If you need help, ask one of your sisters to pray with you.  And if your anchor is holding solid, then be alert for sisters who are struggling.  Take the initiative to offer support and encouragement.

As we launch a new season of Anchored Sisters ministry, we are looking for opportunities to carry out our mission which is spelled out by each letter of the word, SISTERS.

Support, Inspire, Share, Teach, Encourage, Respect, Serve.

Stay tuned!  In the coming weeks, we will be announcing fun times planned for sisters to serve!

Remember, your anchor will determine your attitude.  Are you grounded in the Rock?  Fears flee.  Doubts subside.  You can face today with confidence, unafraid and secure.  And you can even face the unknown of tomorrow with joyful anticipation!

Father God,
Anchor our souls in the reality of Your goodness and grace.  Thank You for being patient and kind when we are scared and confused.  We praise You that You are our Solid Rock, our Firm Foundation, our Stronghold and our Ever-Present Help in times of trouble.  We choose to rest in YOU!  In the Name of Your Son Jesus, we pray.
