Rev. Fred O. Pitts |
The Pitts Stop
Cindy and I want to thank you for the way you have welcomed us to St. Augustine and to Ancient City Baptist Church. We could not have asked for a better welcome. We are especially grateful this week for the many who helped us do some painting on Tuesday before moving into our house on Wednesday. And now that we have moved into the house and are getting more and more settled by the day (as boxes are being opened), we hope to become more and more integrated into the fabric of the church and the community!
I am enjoying preaching through this first series, "Basic Church", and I hope that it is being a blessing for you. One of the most important things we can do right now is pray for wisdom for our future together, and if you haven't been to Wednesday night Prayer Meeting and Bible Study lately, I ask you to join us as we pray for God's power and presence. The future of Ancient City Baptist does not rely on a new pastor but on the ancient, but always new God who says, "Behold, I am making everything new!" Let's seek Him together each week.
Finally, some have asked what I want to be called. Well, my name is Fred, and you are welcome to call me that! If you want to add a title of some sort, my preference is Pastor Fred, and that's what most have called me over the years. I think it has the right balance of respect and familiarity for those who want to use a title.
May God bless us all as we seek His will!
Pastor Fred

Our Ministry of Mercy
Feed My Sheep
Our ninth and final distribution of food to 30 homeless families whose children are enrolled in the Webster School occurred this past Thursday, July 27. A group of
faithful
volunteers came out not only to pack and deliver food, but also to fill and distribute backpacks containing all the appropriate school supplies for 50 specific children. Some of the backpacks even included a water bottle which will come in handy on the hot days of school which opens August 10. As always, t
he food bags were nicely decorated with Bible verses and messages of love and concern. Our thanks to all who opened their heart to this truly great need.

Students from China Hosted by ACBC
A group of 28 school children from Shanghai, China were on our campus for two weeks through the services the Education First organization. The young people were under the supervision of EF Program staff for morning classes at ACBC and in the afternoon made educational field trips to various venues in and around St. Augustine. In addition to the usual places like Castillo de San Marcos, the Lighthouse, the Fountain of Youth, and the Alligator Farm, the students also had a tour of Flagler College and a visit to the Pirate Museum. The students spent their evenings and weekends with host families from our community where they experienced a cultural exchange through conversations and meals. Almost all of the host families were church connected and took the children they hosted to church with them. The children were intrigued by the music and very surprised by the warm and welcoming attitude of the church people to whom they were introduced.
All of the children play at least one musical instrument, typically the violin, piano or flute. They really enjoyed the visit of Mr. Richard Bozund who makes musical instruments. They also appreciated the visit of Peggy Ward of the Bead Shack store who helped them to make jewelry to offer as gifts to their host families. The deportment of these children was exemplary and it was a privilege to host them.

Ancient City Christian Academy News
The Academy has enjoyed a wonderful summer of fun both indoors and out of doors. With school beginning in less than 2 weeks, preparations have been made for a new group of at least 25 children. Classrooms and doors have been repainted and all the floors have been cleaned and waxed. Some beautiful new rugs have been purchased with funds from a donor. New personnel include Dianne Fowler teaching the 2's, Jennifer Love teaching the 3's and Angeline Sommers serving as afternoon assistant.
