Dawn Pate
Don't Miss It...
Annual Life Services Banquet
March 23

I am the girl who walks through the door of a crisis pregnancy center.  I am the reason why ministries like these exist.
Dawn Pate was born and raised in Michigan.  After her parents divorced, she moved to Florida during her 9th grade year. In her teenage years, Dawn found herself pregnant not once, but twice. She hid her first pregnancy from her mother and attempted an abortion at 14 weeks.  The abortion attempt was unsuccessful since she was too far along.  The pregnancy resulted in a daughter named Leah. A couple of years later, she found herself pregnant for the second time...that pregnancy ended in an abortion.
After realizing she had been making bad choices, Dawn began to feel "drawn" to church.  In 1987, she accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior, and her life took a dramatic turn. Just two years later, she was asked to become the director of the Osceola Pregnancy Center in Kissimmee, Florida.   Dawn served in that position for over 21 years. In that time, she oversaw the ministry of over 50,000 clients.
During her tenure as Director, Dawn began experiencing Post Abortion Syndrome (PAS). God began to work His will in Dawn's life and over the next few years, He brought healing in many ways. It was a long and often agonizing process, but God used it to get her heart and life where He wanted it to be. Dawn worked though the healing process with God and was set free from her past.
God continued to work in Dawn's life in so many wonderful ways.  Dawn began to journal her thoughts and feelings and God began to stir these words in her heart into melodies and ultimately, songs. What started out as private thoughts and writings, soon became a music and testimony ministry.
Over the last few years, Dawn has been blessed to share her testimony and music in so many ways.  She has worked with ministries such as Local & National Conferences, The North American Mission Board, Heartbeat International, Focus on the Family, Ramah International and The Florida Baptist State Pro-Life Conference. Dawn was blessed to create with The Holy Land Experience and Z88.3 Radio Station in Orlando Florida, an event entitled "Celebrate Life, 2003" (The Worlds Largest Baby Shower). This event benefited many local pregnancy care centers in Florida.  The purpose was to bring more attention to Life-Affirming work.
Dawn's current ministry is called "New Dawn Ministry".  It is a Christ Centered, Life-Affirming Music & Testimony Ministry.

Out of the pain and healing, God has supernaturally brought Dawn's life full circle.

VBS 2017

Our church has a wonderful opportunity to invest in the lives of children in this community through VBS, Vacation Bible School. Last year 11 children received Christ as Savior and were carefully counseled. Our setting this year is the Arctic: beautiful, exciting and full of treasure!  But VBS is a big job and we need many volunteers. We are looking for people with a heart for God and His truth to teach and encourage children ages 3-11. We also need a flurry of folks who can teach, draw, glue, cook, organize, sing, and pray.

There will be an introductory organizational luncheon after church on Sunday, March 5, 12:15-2:00 pm. Please come and find a job just right for your time and talents. No charge for lunch. VBS will be June 12-16, 9 am until noon. Contact Laurel or Larry DuBose for more information.

Ancient City Christian Academy News

The Academy observed Valentine's Day with a festive party on February 14. A Spirit Night is planned for March 7 at Sonny's Bar BQ from 5 until 8 pm.  Some of the proceeds from business during that time will go toward making ACCA an even better school. Typically, at this time of year, it is difficult to replace children who move.  This year, however, no one moved over the Christmas holidays and the equivalent of 2.5 new students have enrolled!  Re-enrollment is in progress now. Share the news about the only private preschool in the city which has 5 teachers with degrees, the largest and best equipped playground and a record for producing kindergarten ready students.

Baby Bottles and Undie Sunday

The Baby Bottle campaign was initiated on Sunday, January 22. All the available bottles were taken and more were made available on January 29. As of this date, $2,426.71 has been given. All of these funds will go toward the ministry of Life Services, a pregnancy care ministry supported by Ancient City Baptist Church.

On February 19 we observed our annual Undie Sunday! This year, in addition to underclothes for the youngest children in our adopted schools, we included shorts rather than socks. The participation was really great as people from every pew went forward to present their gifts for the children who need these clothes.

Our volunteer coordinator, Cindy Lewis, delivered these to the Webster School and to Ketterlinus Elementary. At Webster, Nurse Nina and Alyssa Socket, the guidance counselor, expressed great appreciation.  At Ketterlinus, the nurse and the volunteer coordinator for the school not only said how much they appreciated these much needed items, but also showed Cindy Lewis a video about test monitoring. If you are willing to help monitor testing, please contact Cindy. This is not a difficult task and you can volunteer for as much or as little time as you wish.
