Each year, we welcome members of the public as they come and experience Shoals in different ways. Our first group came to learn all about the ecology of the Gulf of Maine. They saw birds, seals, intertidal species, and even did a plankton tow from our boat that they then looked at under a microscope.
Our second group was focused on visual art, spending time out in the field painting, participating in a printmaking workshop, and learning to use watercolors. It all culminated in a lovely gallery night!
Take a Bite out of Appledore, our signature eco-culinary retreat, was full of delicious dining experiences with food foraged on our island or fished right off our shores.
Finally, bird lovers from near and far arrived for guided birding tours. We spotted oystercatchers, cormorants, guillemots, and even a rare island visit from a barred owl!
