This year, our awards fundraiser is all virtual and includes three great awards shows, The Golden Globes, the SAG Awards, and the Oscars! While 2020 is behind us, the impact of the pandemic is not behind us. This year's event is truly a fundraiser for the future of our Cinema community.

Since we temporarily closed our doors last March and moved our robust slate of programming to streaming platforms, we have reduced our expenses by over 60% and are running lean. Still, it costs thousands of dollars each week to operate virtually. In addition, we continue to complete work in our building to make it cleaner, safer, and more comfortable once it is safe for us to reopen for in-person screenings and events.

We received a few weeks of emergency funding through the CARES Act last year, and are fortunate and grateful for grant support from the New York State Council on the Arts, Suffolk County, the Town of Huntington, the Alpern Family Foundation, the Burt and Stanley Shaffer Foundation, the Emily T. Allen, Linda P. Allen and F. Towne Allen Charitable Gift Fund, and many others. Our members and donors - you! - have sent contributions large and small. On January 31, we closed our annual Vic Skolnick Life of Our Cinema Campaign having raised over $195,000 - a campaign record! And currently, we await the opportunity to apply for the Shuttered Venue Operators Grant. If it weren't for the amazing support from our community, we would not be here right now preparing for that opportunity. Thank you!

The Cinema Arts Centre has always been supported by members and donors, the people who make up our Cinema Community, the people who truly are the Cinema Arts Centre. When we are operating normally, with our theaters open and presenting 12 or more in-person screenings and events each day, fundraising accounts for about 30% of our revenue. The bulk of our revenue usually comes from ticket sales and café sales. While we have been able to dramatically reduce expenses by operating virtually, the capacity to earn ticket revenue is much different and fundraising now accounts for more than 80% of our revenue. We are only here now because you are standing with us. Together, we ARE the Cinema Arts Centre, and we will persevere.

This year's Awards Season Fundraiser will help support our streaming programs and operations, and continued work in our building, keeping us alive to see that light at the end of the tunnel, when we can all be together again in our independent community cinema and home away from home.

"And the winner is..." is a phrase we will hear often over the next several weeks, as we celebrate the film artists who have contributed to the medium for which we share such great passion. But the winners truly will be all of us, all of you who make the Cinema Arts Centre what we are.
