I prefiled 3 of my bills, ensuring early hearings. This week the Environment & Transportation Committee will hear two of them:
  1. Establishing the Right to Equine Activities. Maryland has a long tradition of equine activities. It is an integral part of our culture, our heritage, our land use, our economy, our recreation, our veterans' support, and our Maryland pride. Last session we passed a bill codifying the right to hunt & fish. As a former hunter, an angler and an equestrian, it makes sense to ensure that the equestrian sector of our state is equally valued.
  2. Prohibiting Wildlife Trafficking. Each year as many as 20,000 African elephants are killed for their ivory. And that ivory - as with giraffe parts, pangolin scales, and many other wildlife parts - are sold in Maryland. Federal law prohibits the trafficking of these parts between states, and 12 states plus the District of Columbia have laws prohibiting the intra-state sale of these parts. But Maryland does not, making it an ideal market for these sales. We can stop the sales here and help protect these endangered species.

If you are interested in testifying on either of these bills, please let us know immediately. Sign-up will close Monday at 3pm sharp.
