Hello CBS,
We've all heard stories about the "hurdles" and "feats" of a race to the finish. Yet, as we look around CBS classrooms and labs, we can't help but ask ... what about the start of the race? If we draw inspiration from the science of sports medicine, consider applying these racing concepts to your early efforts in Winter Quarter 2024:
Brace yourself for the journey. Your faculty will challenge you to learn, and at times, that will be hard. It is OK that your classes are hard. Seek the mindset you need to accomplish hard things. You've done it before, and you can do it again.
Embrace your effort. You know whether you have or have not put in the effort to learn course material. Push yourself toward more "have" moments this quarter. Build your momentum and accumulate knowledge. It will pay off in the end.
Stay positive and on task. Races—and academic quarters—occasionally have potholes and detours. Relax, then confront your worries or negative thoughts. Seek help to stay on track. You'll find resource links here in The DNA, academic advisors in the BASC, and support among your peers and instructional teams. Go to office hours and ask for help.
Keep moving forward!
