And we're off
Early start and restart to season
Walleye fishing opens here the third Saturday of May which fell on the 16th this year; pretty early!

Thankfully, ice was out at the beginning of the month but a few days of fall/winter weather delayed getting camps ready.

We managed to get the camps open for the brave anglers willing to deal with our spring (?) conditions. They were challenging to say the least. Guest blogger, Mike Greaves, recorded the experience for us.

There is usually some sort of restriction on items brought from the States into Canada. The Canadian Food Inspection Agency has determined  that
"all raw poultry and all poultry products and by-products that are not fully cooked, including eggs and raw pet foods, sourced, processed, or packaged from [most mid-west] states are under restriction until further notice. You may not bring these items into Canada." More details can be found on their website. We have given our local grocer a 'heads up' that they may need to increase their inventory of chicken and eggs.

Potatoes are allowed as long as they are store bought and in original packaging, not loose/bulk.
Before you leave home

Don't forget to bring your Ontario Outdoors Card even if it is expired.
We continue to issue angling licences in our office although our system is slow. To speed things up when you check in, you can pre-register to provide us information in advance (see below) or you can purchase them online at the  MNRF automated licensing webpage. If you already have been issued  card, you will need the number. You can call the  Outdoors Card Centre by telephone at 1-800-387-7011 or email at  or check with us (we might have it in our records).

It is advisable to contact your credit card company that you will be out of the country and when. Regardless of a person's credit rating, some cards have strict flagging and decline purchases if a charge does not fit the cardholder's buying pattern. The better the benefits a credit card gives, it seems, the tighter their security systems.

Another way to get on the lake quicker, is to pre-register with us. It is helpful for us to have info on all the members of your group prior to your arrival. Each group is given an id# when the reservation is made. It is printed on all receipts. Your group organizer should have that information. Use this number when filling in our online guest registration form. Be aware the date field may be a different format than you are used to depending on your browser. Contact us if you have any questions.
