At Anderman Ceramics, we use an industry-leading Nikon Metrology CMM and handheld laser scanners to capture the entire geometry of physical objects with up to 1.8 microns accuracy. This means we can provide more than just a remote scanning solution, we provide a specialist service in reverse engineering physical products and turning them into highly accurate CAD models.
Within 48 hours of taking the initial call, our engineering team were attending the customer’s site with the objective to reverse engineer this large and complex part. Alongside completing the scanning, we were also provided with a broken section of a redundant part to enable material analysis and identification.
Following further evaluation to establish the application details of where these parts were being used, we were better placed to identify areas to improve the performance and life of the finished part. This resulted in presenting a quotation to a very appreciative customer within 7 days of taking the initial phone call.
Within 10 weeks, we had created a new tool, produced and delivered the finished parts, which were all within specification and tolerance. These parts have subsequently been installed, and the performance data shared to date is supporting improved performance and extended life. This is due to both design and material modifications that were only possible following the initial ability to reverse engineer the part and work with our customer to identify areas for enhancement.
