I was pleased to learn that Vered Kaminski is this year’s recipient of the prestigious Andy prize for Contemporary Crafts (founded in 2005 by Charles Bronfman for his wife, Andy). The Prize, which is awarded annually to an Israeli decorative artist, also grants a solo exhibition at the Tel Aviv Museum of Art. Kamisnki is an artist I tremendously respect. I still remember my visit to her amazing studio at the German Colony in Jerusalem, where she taught me the allure of art jewelry, and in the most poetic way, illustrated the meticulous way in which she tend to research materials. Vered is so well versed in the language of jewelry and her work is distinctive, elegant, and carries deep meanings. Her vocabulary, which I love touches both her local and personal identity, and the way she transform stones, of the type one typically finds on the streets of Jerusalem into spectacular and poetic work of art is admirable. The beautiful and intriguing exhibition, entitled 'Verek Kaminski: Artificial Stones' explores the notion of imitating nature. it is so much than the jewelry it features, proposing a breathtaking aesthetic experience that can be attractive not only to
fans of art jewelry. I only wish that the Museum's press department would improve when it comes to promotion of the show, to
making it more accessible to the press, and to make photos available.
