Steve Ducham, Esq. - Title Counsel

Steve brings to CATIC his nearly 20 years of experience as a real estate attorney in Vermont, first as a solo practitioner in St. Albans and then as a partner at Monaghan Safar Ducham PLLC in Burlington. Steve represented individuals, businesses, and lending institutions in a wide variety of real estate transactions, from simple residential closings to complex commercial financing projects. He developed extensive experience with farm succession, common interest communities, land conservation, and in recent years, affordable housing projects involving a mix of private and public funding. In addition to real estate, Steve's practice included estate planning, probate administration, and general corporate counsel.

Steve is a multi-generational Vermonter. He graduated from the University of Vermont in 1993 with a B.S. in Environmental Studies and from Vermont Law School in 2003 with a Juris Doctor and Master of Studies in Environmental Law, cum laude. Prior to law school, Steve worked extensively on forestry and Indigenous land use issues in Southeast Asia, first as a research assistant in the remote rainforests of Borneo and then as a Peace Corps volunteer in the Philippines.

Steve is excited to join CATIC and looks forward to serving Vermont's excellent CATIC agents in his new role as state Title Counsel.

Liz Smith, Esq. - Managing Counsel

Liz is thrilled to continue to serve CATIC and all our amazing Vermont agents in her new role as Managing Counsel. Liz joined CATIC in 2016 after 5 years in private practice focusing on residential and commercial real estate transactions, and loves being title insurance counsel. Every day, a new opportunity arises to learn more and to help Vermont attorneys, residents, stakeholders, and visionaries purchase, develop, and insure real property. Liz loves what she does and loves the amazing Vermont team that makes CATIC an incredible place to come to work and an incredible place to provide service to the Vermont real estate marketplace. Liz is also excited to introduce Steve Ducham to the CATIC family, and trusts CATIC Agents will benefit greatly from his experience and diverse strengths as a real estate practitioner.

Liz has worked with Andy Mikell, her mentor and friend for the past 6 years, absorbing every detail of Vermont real estate law, the marketplace, the Bar, our Agents, and the industry. She is eager to take on the new challenge of Vermont management and is well poised with extensive leadership education, CATIC management training, and project management skills.

Liz has quickly risen at CATIC from Associate Title Counsel, to State Counsel, and now to Managing Counsel, marking her ambition, desire to serve, and passion for the law and the Vermont real estate community.
