Be part of our police chief search

Anaheim is seeking our city's next police chief.

We are recruiting for our next chief, looking locally and across our nation.

We want to hear from you! Tell us what you want our next police chief to prioritize while serving Anaheim residents, businesses and visitors.

You can easily share thoughts and comments at Anaheim.net/ournextchief.

You can also email our recruiter, Joel Bryden with Bob Murray & Associates, with any questions about the recruitment or to share your thoughts. You can email Joel here.

Or join us at our upcoming community open houses:

The recruitment follows the retirement of Chief Jorge Cisneros, who continues to lead the Anaheim Police Department as interim chief during the recruitment and transition.

Chief Cisneros has led the Anaheim Police Department since 2018.

Our next chief will be the 37th in the 153-year history of the Anaheim Police Department.

The next chief will lead Orange County’s largest city police department and oversee nearly 600 employees, including more than 400 sworn officers and other police personnel.

Anaheim's police chief plays a leading role in connecting the department to the community by working with the Chief's Advisory Board, Chief's Neighborhood Advisory Council and the Chief's Youth Advisory Council on issues of public safety and quality of life in Anaheim.

Fourth of July: what to know

Fourth of July is around the corner.

It's a chance for us to celebrate and show our national pride here in Anaheim while enjoying time with friends and family.

Here's what to know for the Fourth:

Safe and Sane fireworks the only fireworks allowed in Anaheim — go on sale at 16 stands across the city June 28 through July 4.

The stands are run by schools and nonprofits as fundraisers with proceeds going back to our community.

Anaheim's eight high schools will have stands along with eight churches, civic groups or other nonprofits.

Safe and Sane fireworks, which include fountains, sparklers, smoke balls and flowers, are allowed only on July 4, from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m., and not before or after.

Illegal fireworks, including M-80s, bottle rockets, mortars and other explosives, are never allowed in Anaheim.

Not only are they illegal, they're a danger and a nuisance, particularly to kids, veterans, seniors and pets.

But there are those who still do them. They face fines of up to $3,000 for illegal fireworks and up to $1,000 for misuse of Safe and Sane fireworks.

We need to catch someone in the act of setting off illegal fireworks. So if you see someone setting off illegal fireworks call Anaheim Police at (714) 765-1900.

As with any call to police, be as specific as possible with locations and descriptions.

Unfortunately, unspecific calls about the sound of fireworks in the area rarely result in citations.

If you are hearing but not seeing fireworks, use our online reporting tool. That helps us target enforcement by knowing where fireworks are going off.

If you know of a house or other location where fireworks are regularly being set off, let us know through the online reporting tool, which can lead to a warning letter from Anaheim Police.

You can report illegal fireworks here.

No fireworks of any kind are allowed in east Anaheim, east of the Costa Mesa (55) Freeway, because of wildfire danger.

East Anaheim residents and those from across our city can enjoy a day of patriotic fun and an evening of professional fireworks at the annual Anaheim Fourth of July Celebration 2023.

There's a 5k/10K run, a patriotic dog show and parade, all at or starting at Canyon High School, and food booths, entertainment and a 9 p.m. fireworks show at Peralta Canyon Park.

We have early details at Anaheim.net/FourthofJuly with more to come as we get closer. You can also sign up to volunteer for the event!

All things green in downtown

You can test drive an electric vehicle, recycle electronics, play games, take part in giveaways and learn about sustainability at the OC Green Expo in downtown Anaheim on Saturday, June 10, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

OC Green Expo, hosted by our own Anaheim Public Utilities, is a fun family outing that takes place along Center Street Promenade at Anaheim Boulevard.

The event is free with food for purchase at the restaurants on Center Street Promenade.

There is also electronics recycling onsite. You can bring unneeded computer products, TVs, other electronics and batteries and light bulbs to safely dispose of them.

For those bringing electronics and household item recycling, you can get two free LED light bulbs while supplies last.

While Center Street Promenade will be closed for vehicle traffic, parking is free and available nearby.

You can access the Center Street Promenade parking structure from Lehman Way just to the north.

Parking also is available at Anaheim City Hall at Anaheim Boulevard and Broadway and at a city structure along East Center Street.

You can show up, or, even better, register to attend in advance and get a free gift pack, with a water bottle, cooling towel and insulated reusable tote, at Anaheim.net/GreenExpo.

Flag Day at Pearson Park

Anaheim's own Sean Oliu performs as part of an annual Flag Day celebration on Sunday, June 11, at Pearson Park.

Oliu, born and raised in Anaheim, mixes country, rockabilly, blues and rock with his band Sean Oliu & The Coastline Cowboys.

He's fresh back from Nashville where he played the historic Ryman Auditorium, onetime home of the Grand Ole Opry show.

Oliu's performance is part of an annual celebration of Flag Day staged by community volunteers.

The day starts at 11:30 a.m. with a decorated vehicle parade and then a walking parade around Pearson Park.

Stage performances start at noon.

Walk through an avenue of flags, enjoy barbecue to buy as well as free cake and ice cream.

For more, check out Anaheim Flag Day on Facebook and Instagram.

District Community Meetings

District Community Meetings bring neighborhoods together to hear about what's going on in our city and to share concerns.

Our next meetings are taking place across the city in June.

We'll be sharing updates on public safety, our city's proposed budget for the next 12 months and upcoming changes to how we dispose of food and other organic waste.

District Community Meetings are a great way to connect with your city. See below for the next one in your neighborhood.
