Long-empty lots at Beach Boulevard and Lincoln Avenue are seeing progress as part of our effort to rebuild Beach.
Some progress is visible, some is behind the scenes. But, rest assured, progress is happening with more to come.
The most visible progress is 65 townhomes nearing completion at the Nolin community along Lincoln at the northeast corner of Beach.
New residents have moved in and completion is expected in coming weeks in the most significant new housing community to come to Beach since 2005's nearby Anacapa community of 102 townhomes.
Nolin brings residents invested in our long-term plan for Beach as a livable, walkable street with new homes, restaurants, businesses and public spaces.
Construction of a long-awaited shopping center at Beach and Lincoln, known as 39 Commons, is expected to start in early 2024.
In coming weeks, we'll see final remediation site work along Beach as dirt is removed and replaced with fresh soil that will be the foundation for restaurants and other businesses along Beach.
The remediation work, set to happen through 2023, is the final step before construction of a shopping center that's expected to include a Sprouts Farmers Market, Lowe’s Home Improvement, In-N-Out Burger, a drive-thru Starbucks and other retailers and services.
Across the street, at southeast Beach and Lincoln, planning is underway for a community of townhomes and affordable apartments. The planning follows state clearance of the project under a California law prioritizing affordable housing and known as the Surplus Land Act.
Planning will play out this year for a community of 59 townhomes for sale, including 10 priced for those at moderate incomes, 47 affordable apartments and a restaurant pavilion.
Construction on the townhouses is expected to start in 2024 with the first phase finishing in early 2026.
We know change can't come fast enough to Beach, but real change is happening as we saw with January's demolition of the troubled Covered Wagon motel and 2022's acquisitions of the Covered Wagon and Anaheim Lodge.
See all we're doing at Anaheim.net/RebuildBeach.
