Recycling your Christmas Tree

Your Christmas tree was a focal point in your home, bringing loved ones together for some holiday cheer. Now, as we enter the new year, it's time to send it off the right way.

Natural trees can take years to decompose in a landfill but when recycled, they can become mulch or compost for gardens.

Do your part and recycle!

Anaheim residents can place their natural Christmas trees on the curb for recycling now through Jan. 16.

Before setting out your tree, remember:

  • Remove all ornaments, tinsel, lights and other decorations
  • Trees taller than 6 feet should be cut in half
  • Trees cut into smaller pieces may be placed in food and yard waste bins
  • Loose branches can be layered between food scraps in the bin
  • Do not place whole trees inside bins

For those living in apartment homes or townhome communities, please check with your property managers for specific instructions.

Set your tree out on your regular collection day. Due to the New Year's Day holiday, pickups the week of Jan. 1 will be delayed by one day. Thursday pickups will move to Friday and Friday pickups will happen on Saturday.

If it's raining, place bins away from the curb to allow water to flow.

For those looking to get rid of their artificial tree, do not place it on the curb. Instead, break it down and place it in your trash bin or contact Republic Services to arrange a bulky item pickup at (714) 238-2444.

Thank you for doing your part in keeping our community clean and green!

NAMM: Celebrating 50 years in Anaheim

The NAMM Show, the music industry’s largest gathering for makers and sellers of instruments and gear, is celebrating two landmark milestones in 2026.

The organization is celebrating its 125th anniversary since its founding in 1901, commemorating its long-run, ongoing support of the music industry.

This year also marks 50 years of hosting the annual NAMM Show in Anaheim!

To celebrate, the 2026 NAMM Show will bring to the Anaheim Convention Center expanded programming and special events to honor its extensive history.

The show runs Thursday, Jan. 22 through Saturday, Jan. 24, with kickoff events Tuesday and Wednesday, Jan. 20-21.

Tens of thousands of people come to Anaheim from across our nation and the world for the show every year.

Unlike some other shows, NAMM is a trade show for music industry attendees and is not open to the general public.

While in Anaheim, NAMM attendees stimulate our economy by filling our hotel rooms and spending money at restaurants, shops and other attractions.

All of that brings revenue to the city and goes right back to serving our community by supporting our police, fire and other community services.

We will see larger than usual crowds and traffic in and around the Anaheim Convention Center and the entire Anaheim resort.

To all those attending, welcome! If you are not attending and don’t need to be in the area, you’ll want to avoid The Anaheim Resort and take alternate routes for your convenience.

Disneyland Half Marathon

Heads up, Anaheim! The Disneyland Half Marathon Weekend returns to Anaheim with 10K and half marathon routes across our city streets January 29 through February 1.

The weekend begins with a 10K on Saturday, Jan. 31, which typically takes place within the Anaheim Resort area with no impacts expected beyond the immediate area.

The half marathon on Sunday, Feb. 1, will see the most impacts with limited road closures and traffic impacts, all early in the morning.

If you are not taking part, you’ll want to plan ahead and go around route streets for your own convenience.

Neighborhoods will have local accessSome business access will be impacted for short amounts of time.

We want to ensure that Anaheim residents, employees and visitors can prepare ahead of the events. Stay tuned for road closure maps and specific route details on our social media as we get closer to the event.

The event is sold out and brings visitors to Anaheim during a typically slower season, supporting our hotels, restaurants and shops. That economic activity helps fund essential city services, including police, fire, parks, libraries and community centers.

Downed power line safety

We are welcoming the new year with rain throughout our region.

It is important to remember that rain, storms and winds can cause power outages and bring down electrical lines.

A downed power line is a serious and potentially life-threatening issue. Knowing what to do if you see one can help keep you and others safe.

If you see an electrical accident or emergency, call 911 immediately.

If you are outside and power goes out, use extreme caution. Never touch or approach downed wires or utility poles.

If you come across a downed power line, remember to:

  • Stay inside or remain in a safe place until help arrives
  • Do not touch or lean on vehicles, poles, fences or other objects near the power line
  • Move away carefully
  • Do not touch other people or objects until you are away from the area

Always assume a downed power line is live and dangerous. Keep your distance and call 911 for help.
