Chicano heritage is Anaheim heritage.
We're celebrating Chicano Heritage Month in August with a range of free events highlighting Chicano culture, history and creativity at our libraries.
From zine-making workshops to art labs and family storytimes, the monthlong celebration invites community members of all ages to learn and connect.
At Sunkist Branch, teens kick off the festivities with Chicano Pride Zine Making on Friday, Aug. 8, from 3 to 4 p.m.
You can make your own zine — a do-it-yourself magazine — using materials provided by the library. The event is open to ages 13 and older.
Teens can also explore the art of zines at How-2-Zine for Teens at Central Library on Saturday, Aug. 9, at 3 p.m.
The workshop, held in the Teen Lounge, features zines by Chicano artists and writers from the library’s collection.
On Monday, Aug. 11, at 5 p.m., Central Library hosts its Art Lab for Teens, where young artists can experiment with this month’s focus on printmaking.
For younger children and families, Chicano Heritage Monthly Family Storytime at Sunkist Branch on Tuesday, Aug. 12, from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m., features themed stories and crafts, including piñata making and papel picado.
The celebration wraps up with a Frida Kahlo Craft event on Friday, Aug. 15, from 4 to 5 p.m. Children 13 and younger can create bold, colorful portraits of iconic Mexican artist Frida Kahlo, incorporating her signature floral motifs.
All events are free. For more, visit Anaheim.net/Library.

Anaheim Anytime is a simple, around-the-clock way for residents, businesses and visitors to let the city know when something needs attention.
Think of Anaheim Anytime as your direct line to City Hall.
Whether it’s day or night, weekday or weekend, you can report neighborhood issues quickly and easily.

Once submitted, your request is assigned to the right city team and followed up on — no need to wonder if it was received.
From streetlight outages and graffiti to dumped items and more, Anaheim Anytime helps us stay on top of the little things that matter in your daily life.
It’s part of our partnership with you to keep Anaheim clean, safe and thriving.

Did you know that just by planting a few trees, you can help the environment, transform your outdoor space and — best of all — lower your electric bill?
The Anaheim Public Utilities TreePower program transforms your home and your community.
Trees are nature's air conditioners.
Just a few well-placed shade trees can cut your sprinkler use in half, improve the air you breathe and create cooler outdoor spaces in the summer heat.
Even better? Shade trees planted around your home can reduce your air conditioning needs by 40 percent.
Through the TreePower program, you can get up to six free trees. With more than 40 types of trees to choose from, there is something for every need and style.
Not sure where to start? Our TreePower specialists can help you choose the best trees for your property, along with easy tips for planting and care.
We are offering free shovels with program participation, while supplies last.
Keep the savings going through our shade tree rebate program.
Single-family homeowners can receive up to $20 back for up to three qualifying trees they buy and plant.
Trees must meet size and placement guidelines, verified by our TreePower specialist.
For more, call (714) 491-8733 or click here.
