Dear Kirk family,
I’m writing to ask you support our Angel Tree ministry, through which we provide gifts to children and teenagers who have suffered through some appalling experiences.
According to 2019 statistics from CARE House of Oakland County, there are 273,000 children living in Oakland County, and 1 in 10 of those children will be sexually abused before they turn 18.
CARE House is a children’s advocacy center that provides services to victims of child abuse and neglect. Since 2004, through the Angel Tree ministry, Kirk in the Hills has partnered with CARE House to bring holiday joy to children who have undergone the trauma of physical or sexual abuse.
These young people have been harmed emotionally as well as physically. They may not feel safe in their homes. Rather than playing or spending time with friends, many of these young victims have been going to court or being examined by doctors. But their lives don’t have to be defined by the traumatic experiences they have undergone. This holiday season, let’s help them remember that they’re still just kids. Let’s help them have fun.
The Kirk’s Angel Trees are Christmas trees decorated with paper tags instead of colorful ornaments. They are located in the Abbey Lounge (near the Welcome Center), in Heritage Hall, and near the Preschool entrance. We encourage you to pick one or more tags from the tree, purchase age-specific toys, and then select an angel ornament to hang when you place your unwrapped gifts under the tree. Please don’t forget that teen gifts, rather than simply toys, are needed.
For those who prefer to shop virtually, have gifts shipped to “Angel Tree, Kirk in the Hills, 1340 W. Long Lake Road, Bloomfield Hills, MI 48302." Gift cards also are very welcome.
We also have a very special Angel Tree gift giving event on December 5 at 5pm! Bring your gifts to the Angel Tree Lighting and you’ll be able to put your gifts under the Christmas trees when we light them. The tree lighting follows the Festival of Carols and Lights at 3:00pm.
Let’s show these children some Kirk love and put smiles on their faces!
Blessings,
Ann Nazareth Manning
