What Does It Take To Be A Volunteer Coach?
Can you give a kid an encouraging word? Can you slap him a "High Five", tell him "Great Try You'll Get it Next Time" when he doesn't. Then you've got it!
The next part; remember those position drills our coaches made us do over and over again? "Getting back to the basics" they called it! Hand-offs, pitch and catch, lineman shuffle drills, tipped pass drills, fumble drills, stances, get-off drills, yep you remember!
For these boys, doing those same drills led by "Legends of the Game", like you, are fun, fun, fun unbounded! Throw in some verbal encouragement, a fist bump or two and a little bit of levity and you have a recipe for a happy, encoura ged and inspired kid. Remember, though the "vehicle" is Football, this is a day that's all about relationship, encouragement, uplift, hope and a new perspective for some very special boys! Many of our boys come from environments where encouragement, up-lift and hope are in short supply; their spirits can be very low and their self-esteem even lower. It is their day, it is all about "Lifting Them Up"!
So what's the role of Volunteer Coach?
Encourager, Friend, Inspiration...our job: teach 'em a little bit of football, give them a great time and Lift Them Up... because sometimes when you lift a kid up just a little bit, they discover the freedom and courage to Fly Like on Wings of Eagles!

ATFC Coach Profile
The only thing bigger than the way Dennis Brown played the game is his heart for young people. Dennis Brown was a standout Defensive Lineman at the University of Washington, where he was the team's Defensive Lineman of the Year three times, and named All PAC-10 Conference 3 consecutive years. Dennis was a 2-time Playboy All-American and an AP 2nd Team All-American and was a 2-time finalist for the Outland Trophy, awarded annually to the best interior lineman in College Football. Dennis was drafted in the second round of the 1990 NFL draft by the San Francisco 49ers where he made an immediate impact. Dennis was named the 49ers Rookie of the Year following his initial campaign. His hard work and tenacity won him a starting position on the 49ers Defensive Line where he started and anchored the unit which defeated the San Diego Chargers in the 1995 Super Bowl! Dennis' athletic prowess helped him become a Super Bowl Champion, but his heart for young people makes him a Life Champion! Welcome Dennis Brown to the Angel Tree Football Clinic!
