When we give cheerfully and accept gratefully, everyone is blessed.
                        - Maya Angelou

This October, ACAM's cheerful givers include Paul and Mary Kernodle, Nancy Watson and Mary Kay Ogden.  ACAM is blessed and so very grateful to receive.
Viviana and her "new" flute
Because of Paul and Mary Kernodle, Viviana passed her flute on to a beginner and now continues her studies on the beautiful "Kernodle" flute.
One Thursday an array of guitars, drums and rhythm instruments filled my office. Nancy Watson of Grace Lutheran Church in Culver City collected and delivered them to ACAM.  Percussionist
Josued Hidalgo is eager to compose music for them.
Some of the donated instruments
Oscar and Sol Jee Park
Oscar is now aspiring to play  the oboe with the donation of Mary Kay Ogden's oboe and the expertise of teaching artist Sol Jee Park, a USC doctoral student.  Oscar, a guitar and recorder student, is enjoying the challenge.

Ensemble
ACAM Ensembles Perform

ACAM String & Wind Orchestra with Hunter Harris, Juli Emmel,  Enio Palomino & Bill Masonheimer
The ensemble acts as a model society where a competitive atmosphere between individuals is replaced by shared aspiration and investment.  El Sistema's Dr. Abreu says the ensemble is "the only group that comes together with the sole purpose of agreement."
Chorus and Recorder in ensemble
with Ellen Sell and Paula Sirola
On October 21 ACAM ensembles performed for Oktoberfest. Recorders & Chorus took turns in the round, "Have You Seen the Ghost of Tom?" The String & Wind Orchestra played, "The Parting Hour" by Schubert. Theatre 2 & 3 combined to present the story, "Don't Laugh at Me."
Theatre 2 and 3 together in ensemble
with Joyce Lee
In addition to Oktoberfest, Guitar, Percussion, Recorder Ensemble and the ACAM Chorus performed for the Pico Union Neighborhood Council October 3.

ACAM Performs for Partners

ACAM partners with Angelica Lutheran Church and New City Parish (NCP) and on October 29 and 30 ACAM students proudly performed for each.  Angelica Lutheran Church provides our classroom and performance facilities, and New City Parish provides us with various supportive services.

Three ACAM cellists played "Minuet in G" by Bach for the NCP Banquet.

Four flutists played three selections for the NCP Banquet.
ACAM Recorder 2, 3 and 4 students played and nine members of the ACAM Chorus sang during the Reformation Sunday Service for Angelica Lutheran Church on
October 30.
Recorders 2, 3 & 4 perform at Angelica.
