Encouraging Environmental Learning in Our Schools

Over the past few months, Cal-Waste’s Education Team has been visiting local schools and engaging students with hands on recycling education programs focused on protecting our environment and community.

As part of our annual Earth Day program, Earth Day poster contest materials were distributed to elementary schools across the county. Students are currently creating their posters, and we look forward to collecting their submissions soon. Winning posters will be returned to schools in April along with prizes for the students who participate. The grand prize-winning poster will also be featured on a Cal-Waste truck, giving the student the opportunity to see their artwork displayed throughout the community.

Our team also completed a three-part series of recycling education workshops with several local schools. Students at Mark Twain Elementary learned about recycling, composting, and how everyday actions can help protect our environment.

Through classroom visits, workshops, and the Earth Day poster contest, Cal-Waste continues to help encourage students and community members to recycle right and protect the beautiful communities of Calaveras County.

Encouraging Young Scientists at the Calaveras Science Fair

Students from across the county gathered to showcase their creativity and curiosity at the 41st Annual Calaveras Science Fair. The event saw an impressive turnout, with 44 science projects and three demonstrations presented by students in 4th through 8th grade.

Projects covered a wide range of topics, from testing snow beacon technology to experimenting with the best way to brush your teeth, highlighting the innovation and curiosity of young scientists throughout Calaveras County.

Cal-Waste participated in the event by providing a judge and helping ensure that student winners receive medals and cash prizes for their hard work and dedication. The competition also served as a steppingstone for four students who will now advance to the state science competition.

Events like the Calaveras Science Fair play an important role in inspiring the next generation of thinkers, innovators, and problem solvers. Cal-Waste is grateful for the opportunity to help encourage students as they explore science and discover new ideas.

Cal-Waste is Proud to Support and Help Bring this Project to Life

Cal-Waste was proud to support the Angels Camp Museum Foundation, an organization dedicated to preserving and celebrating the rich history of Calaveras County.

The foundation helps fund exhibits, educational programs, and the continued growth of the Angels Camp Museum, which shares the story of the California Gold Rush and the region’s mining, ranching, and cultural heritage.

Through partnerships and community support, projects like these help keep local history alive for residents, students, and visitors alike. Cal-Waste is honored to contribute to organizations that help protect and share the unique heritage of Calaveras County.

Glass Recycling Made Simple

Learn the Do's and Don'ts of recycling glass jars and bottles. Be sure to leave the lids on, and don’t worry if the glass is broken. During processing, materials are broken down and magnets separate the metal lids so they can be recycled properly.
