St. Peter's Invites you to the
First Conference of the Verger's Guild of the
Anglican Church in North America
Anglicanism is unique in its ability to hold together varying worship styles and traditions. Our own Diocese is proof of this as we have parishes that represent various styles of churchmanship; from high church to low church, from charismatic to catholic.
Yet no matter your style of churchmanship or the size of your church, the basic needs of our Sunday services remain the same. This means that clergy often spend a lot of the time before services wrangling acolytes and Lay Eucharistic Ministers, making sure all of the readings are in place for the day, and ensuring all of the music is properly coordinated. All of this can add a lot of stress on top of the ministry of Word and Sacrament.
This is where Vergers come in and save the day. A Verger's job is to assist clergy in the planning and execution of worship. They make sure that all of the little details are in order before a service, and are on hand to step in and deal with any issues that might otherwise occupy the attention of the clergy during a service: be it Sunday worship, a wedding, or a funeral.
Because St. Peter's has found Vergers to be so useful to our worshipping life, we have helped to establish the Anglican Church in North America Guild of Vergers to promote this valuable ministry across our Province. The Guild of Vergers will facilitate resource sharing, fellowship among Vergers, and provide training and resources for lay people and clergy who wish to begin a Verger ministry in their own churches.
In light of this, St. Peter's invites you to the first conference of the Anglican Church in North America Guild of Vergers, October 27-29. The Conference will be a time of fellowship and networking, and will include training and resource sharing. It is for both Clergy and Lay people who are interested in learning more about the Verger's role in the life of the church, and those who are interested in beginning a Verger ministry in their own churches. The conference is free of charge and includes breakfast and lunch on Saturday.
