Third Sunday of Epiphany - January 21, 2024

Anglicanism 101 and Other Things

Are you new to Epiphany, or just want to explore in a bit more detail what following the Anglican way of being a Christian means? Have you ever wondered if Henry VIII really founded the Anglican Church just so he could divorce his wife? Starting on February 11, and continuing on Feb. 18 and 25, I'll be offering "Anglicanism 101." This class, which will be held between 9:15 and 10am on those Sundays, offers a brief overview of Anglican history, theology and worship. Taking it also is a great step for those desiring to be formally received into the Anglican Church by Bishop Chris when he makes his yearly visit to Epiphany on March 17. Send me an email if you are planning on attending. I would also love to hear any specific questions you would be interested in having me address.

While we are talking about upcoming events, please mark your calendars for March 2 and 3. The Rev. Dr. Joel Scandrett and his wife, geriatrician Dr. Karen Scandrett, will be leading a congregational retreat focusing on issues of memory loss, aging and our relationship with God in the midst of these changes and challenges for us and for those we love. We are calling this retreat "With All your Mind." Look for more details in the coming weeks.

Finally, consider stopping by the church this Saturday, Jan. 20, for some quiet time with God. The day will begin with morning prayer at 9am.

God bless,

Quiet Day at Epiphany on Saturday

Mark your calendars for our next Quiet Day at the church on Saturday, January 20 from 9am to 12 noon. We plan to start the day with Morning Prayer together at 9:00 in the Chapel. Stay for half an hour or the whole morning. Bible readings and reflections will be provided for those who want them.

A printed statement has also been mailed to all donors.

Altar Guild, Lay Eucharistic Minister,

and Lector Training Feb. 24

Are you interested in learning more about what our lay ministries (Altar Guild, Lay Eucharistic Ministers, and Lectors) do?  Maybe considering joining one of those ministries?  If so, please join the members of the Altar Guild, LEMs and Lectors for an orientation / training session on Saturday morning, February 24th.  A SUMPTUOUS LUNCH will be provided after the training.  So please join us at 9:30am on February 24. A sign-up sheet will be available at the Church, so we’ll know how many folks to plan lunch for. See you there!

Livestream Moving to Youtube on Feb. 18

Our current live streaming service is ending operations, so we are moving to a new platform. We will be moving to YouTube starting February 18. What does this mean to you? If you view live streamed events by going to the church’s website and clicking on the “Livestream” link on the top, then continue to do that. If you currently receive email notifications of events that are about to start and click on the link in the email to go to the event, then you will have to register again by sending an email with your name and email address to EpiphanyAnglicanAV@gmail.com. Set the Subject to “Register me for live stream events”. If you go directly to our livestream page, you will need to go to https://www.youtube.com/@EpiphanyVideo. If you have any questions about this change, please send an email to EpiphanyAnglicanAV@gmail.com.

Coates Food Bag Donations by February 4

Please bring donations of individual items or packed gallon bags by Sunday, February 4 for our next delivery. We have a special need for lunches and dinners that will fit in the one gallon bag. Questions?. Any questions? Sally Eckard (sseckard@verizon.net) or Bea Long (bduquelong@gmail.com).

Pancake Palooza is back in 2024!

Happy New Year, Epiphany friends! We just celebrated the holidays, but Shrove Tuesday is coming soon, and we are planning to celebrate with another Pancake Palooza. This year, we’d like to incorporate a topping bar (an excellent suggestion made by several pancake eaters last year), so make plans now to bring your favorite topping so you can have the craziest pancake ever. Caramel? Blueberries? Blueberries with caramel? The sky is the limit. Due to popular demand, Epiphany's own Bob Schulenberg and his band will be back providing music this year!

The festivities will occur on February 13 at 6 pm. We’d love your help with flipping pancakes, setting up, cleaning up, or cooking additional items such as sausage, so please sign up in the fellowship hall. We’re again suggesting a donation of $5 per person to offset the cost.

And please, bring your family and friends. You know they want pancakes for dinner, too. See you then!

Due to popular demand, Epiphany's own Bob Schulenberg and his band will be back providing music this year!
