Greetings Osprey Community,
It's exciting to witness students taking the lead on designing creative exhibitions of learning. Congratulations to the class of 2018 for creating a uniquely powerful exhibition last night, The Great Divide. It can be challenging to openly discuss the root causes and impacts of socio-economic divisions in our country, and our seniors led participants through a series of experiences and conversations that elicited thoughtful consideration and dialogue about social class. Well done, Ospreys.
We hope to see lots of Animas folks in the audience for the iAM Music Winter Student Showcase on Sunday of this weekend, which runs from 2:00 to 6:00 at the Henry Strater Theatre. This concert serves as the exhibition for the students who are enrolled in the Music Performance elective. They will perform from 5:00 to 6:00 as the band "Gracefully Dysfunctional." Admission is free--stop by to celebrate all they've learned and hear some great music.
The Masks We Wear exhibition takes place next Wednesday evening from 5:00 to 7:00 at AHS. Students in Sara Price's 9th grade Humanities classes are designing an immersive experience to share what they've learned about how the forces of socialization such as race, gender, age and class shape our identities. They will present essays and masks they've crafted exploring their own identity formation as part of the exhibition.

With just three weeks left in the semester, it's time to make sure second semester schedules are set for students. Please review the letter we sent out this week for all the details you need about signing up for academic electives, XBlock and Osprey Week; you can access the letter here.
As many of you know, our amazing registrar Laurel Rodd, who has been with us at Animas since our early days and who does all that scheduling work and so much more, is moving with her family to Portugal at the start of the New Year. Laurel has worn many hats at AHS--including mom to Nano (AHS class of 2013), Allie (class of 2015) and Teddy (class of 2018)--and she has contributed in immeasurable ways to create the school we are today. While we're excited for Laurel to experience this international adventure, we will miss her warm smile, her outstanding ability to gracefully multitask, her big, big heart and her unwavering commitment to excellence. If you know someone who might be a good fit for us, please share the news that we are accepting applications for the registrar position. Colorado Gives Day: December 5
Through the Fall Fundraiser and Silent Auction, we raised over $35,000, as well as an anonymous gift to support technology needs at our school. If you weren't able to attend the event and still want to support the school, not to worry--Colorado Gives Day is next Tuesday, December 5th.
Colorado Gives Day is an annual statewide movement to celebrate and increase philanthropy in Colorado through online giving. Donations are accepted through the website and will directly benefit Animas High School. Instead of a pumpkin spice or Eggnog latte next Tuesday, please consider making a donation to support the students whose lives are positively impacted each and every day at AHS. Visit the

College and Career Corner
Jess and Janae are attending annual conference of the
Colorado Council on High School/College this week in Colorado Springs. With a theme of "Take this Job and LOVE It," the conference is providing them with a great opportunity to network with other career and college counselors from across the state.
The next 9th Grade College/Career Exploration Day is Wednesday, December 13. Students in the class of 2021 will explore a variety of skilled trades and technical services, ranging from architecture to manufacturing. We are seeking parent volunteers to chaperone for this date, as well as the five College/Career Exploration Days over the course of spring semester. Please use this signup sheet if you can help transport students.
