Greetings Osprey Community,

As we prepare to head into our Thanksgiving Break, we have much to be grateful for as a community, including, first and foremost, our amazing students, our outstanding staff and our supportive families.  Our school thrives because so many work hard to make it so.  We are also thankful for all the community support we receive; guest speakers, community partnerships, volunteers and donors all play a critical role in our school's success.

That support was abundant this week at the Osprey Games, where we raised enough to put us more than halfway towards our fundraising goal for the year.  Thank you to all who helped make the event a success, including our sponsors Alpine Bank, The Payroll Department, Jaynes Corporation, Fort Lewis College and Durango Motor Company.  It's certainly not too late to support of our school, and we strive for 100% participation from our families.  You can make a donation in person or online anytime by visiting our website here.

When we return from break, we will have just two weeks of classes and then a full week devoted to Presentations of Learning (POLs) before the first semester wraps up.  As you may have seen in the Durango Herald, this week the AHS Board approved a change in our enrollment policy that opens a handful of spots to new 9th, 10th and 11th grade students at the start of the second semester.  We look forward to welcoming new Ospreys to the nest mid-year!  For more details or to learn how to enroll, please visit our website here or reach out to our registrar Laurel Rodd at [email protected].

Please remember that Monday, November 28 is a professional development day for our staff and classes resume on Tuesday. the 29th.  Mark your calendars now for three exhibitions that week, with sophomores presenting an Ecology Exhibition from 5:30 to 7:30pm on Wednesday, November 30 at the County Fairgrounds, freshmen unveiling their Rube Goldberg machines for a Physics Exhibition on Thursday from 5:30 to 7:00pm at AHS and seniors participating in Model Senate Wednesday, Thursday and Friday (times and locations below).

We hope that you all find time and space to connect with friends and family, rest, play and rejuvenate over the break.  Many thanks for all you do to help the Ospreys soar!

Osprey Appreciations

We would like to express our deep appreciation to two members of the AHS Board of Directors who are stepping down after great service to the Animas community.
Machelle Richberg stepped onto the AHS Board in the role of Treasurer two years ago and has been instrumental in ensuring financial stability, transparency and accountability for our organization. Machelle has agreed to stay on in a volunteer role, serving on the newly formed Financial Committee of the Board, alongside our Director of Finances Christine Imming and new Board Member Christina Knoell. They are seeking additional committee members with strong financial background; contact Christina at [email protected] to learn more.
Tom Morrissey has been a steadfast, passionate and dedicated member of the Board since the early years of AHS, providing invaluable continuity and institutional knowledge. Tom has helped us stay true to our founders' vision for the school while also, in his role as Board Governance Committee Chair, making sure that we are always operating in accordance with school law. We're fortunate to have Tom continuing to support the school as well, as he'll be helping AHS founding teacher and current Board Member Colleen Dunning as she takes leadership on the Governance Committee.
