NEWS FROM THE NEST
May 22, 2015
Greetings Osprey Community,

Class of 2015 soon-to-be-graduates at rehearsal this morning
Please join us for Animas High School Graduation at the Fort Lewis College Community Concert Hall this afternoon at 4:00.  Doors open at 3:15 and there will be general admission seats available on a first-come, first-served basis.  We hope to see you there as we celebrate our third graduating class!

Advisory Olympics this morning at Santa Rita park proved to be a silly, celebratory stress-reliever as we get ready to head into our final week of school.  To catch a glimpse of the fun, have a look at the photos and videos on the AHS Facebook page.  Students in 9th through 11th grade complete their Transitional Presentations of Learning (tPOLs) next Tuesday through Thursday, and then we'll be heading off into our summer break.  We look forward to hearing Osprey students thoughtfully and authentically reflect upon their year through tPOLs next week, and encourage everyone to support one another through this final push.  Students have worked hard this past week to prepare, and we are confident that tPOLs will showcase student learning and growth in a truly unique Animas way.

Thanks for all you do to help the Ospreys soar!

AHS students may register for an Alive at 25 cost-free defensive driving class that will be offered on Sunday, July 26th from 12:00-4:30pm.  The course encourages drivers and passengers aged 15-24 to take responsibility for their behavior in moving vehicles.  It is taught by local law enforcement officers.  Register today online or by calling (720) 269-4046.  Tuition for non-court ordered Animas High School students, ages 15-19 attending the July 26th class will be paid for by the Southwest Colorado Coalition for Occupant Protection.

One of our Osprey parents, Mac Thomson, teaches parents how to prepare their teenagers to go out into the world with solid money skills through his organization, Money Ready Kids. Mac has offered to give all MMS and AHS parents 50% off of any of the training that he offers.  He is deeply appreciative of the many ways that the two schools have helped develop his kids and this is his way of giving back.  Mac has set up a special sign-up link for MMS and AHS parents so you can receive the 50% discount.   Signing up means that you'll get informational emails from Mac.  It doesn't mean you ever have to buy anything, but if you do, you'll get 50% off.  ( Please don't share this link with anyone.  It's only for MMS and AHS parents.)   If you know someone that you think would be interested in financial literacy for teenagers, you can send them to Mac's regular sign-up page If you have any questions, feel free to email Mac .

Champions Day Camp, a faith-based camp opportunity for kids and adults with special needs, is seeking volunteer coaches for their summer program, which runs from June 15-19 at The River Church.  Email or call Joy Larson at (970) 749-4336 to learn more or volunteer.
