AHS Spellebration Champions Susy, Finn and Emma share the trophy with First National Bank
Greetings Osprey Community,

Congratulations to the AHS Snowdown Spellebration team for taking first place alongside First National Bank, thanks to the formidable spelling skills of Spanish teacher Susy Raleigh, Physics student-teacher Emma Boone and 9th grader Finn Bridgham, who filled in for Lori Fisher at the last minute. We're happy to take part in this Snowdown event every year as a fun way to celebrate intellectual shenanigans while supporting the Durango Adult Education Center.

Thank you to Durango Neighbors Magazine for profiling Sean Woytek's family in a very sweet cover story. In case you missed it, have a look here to see the beautiful photos of our head of school, his wife and their boys and to learn a bit more about their family and what makes them tick.

Earlier this week, Sean sent out his midyear letter, the 2018 Bird's Eye View, where he shared how our school's core values continue to guide our work and reflected on the ways in which recent successes have connected to these values.  You can review the letter here.

Next week we are launching Sophomore Inspire Week, a new college and career readiness program that Jess Adams, Janae Hunderman and our sophomore teaching team have created.  The program is modeled after a similar one at High Tech High, the school in San Diego that inspired our founders a decade ago. Sophomores will learn about resumes, career options, scholarships and more and will engage in a two-day service project in our community. We are excited to provide this valuable experience for the Class or 2020 and grateful to all the community partners who are making it possible.

Chasing Coral
We hope to see a great turnout for the AHS Rotary Interact Club's fundraiser next Monday evening in support of their service trip to Baja California over spring break. Interact is sponsoring a screening of the award winning documentary film Chasing Coral at the Animas City Theatre. Doors open at 5:30 and the film begins at 6:30. Tickets are $15 at the door, $10 with student ID and there will be food provided with your entry.

Families who are considering Animas High School for the 2018-19 school year are invited to attend our second AHS Information Session next Wednesday evening from 5:30 to 6:30 in Cyle Talley's classroom. We had a record crowd at the Info Session this past week and interest in enrollment is high. New families must complete the online Intent to Enroll form by February 28 to be placed in the enrollment lottery. Siblings of current students or alumni are guaranteed a spot as long as they complete Intent to Enroll by February 28. Returning students will receive registration materials on March 1, and must complete and return them by March 15 in order to claim their spot for the 2018-19 school year.

Enjoy the weekend and thanks for all you do to help the Ospreys soar!
