Hello Osprey Community,
It's been a fun week at the nest with plenty of Spirit Week costumes, thanks to leadership from Student Council. Check out the
AHS Facebook page to see lots of festive photos from all five days. The fun continues this evening; Peers Owning Wellness (POW) is busily prepping for tonight's Halloween Dance in the Commons from 8:00 to 10:00, which will feature a costume contest and music from DJ Ryan Colley (who happens to be an AHS sophomore). We love seeing student leadership like this building positive school culture at Animas.

the EcoFlight crew--Maddie, Ben, Ashley, Ellis, Risa, Claire, Lyric, Aidyn and Susan--after a successful flight over Mesa Verde |
 |
This morning, eight lucky students and Humanities teacher Ashley Carruth were lucky enough to fly over Mesa Verde thanks to a generous invitation from
EcoFlight. The group got a bird's eye view of our region, followed by a seminar at Durango High School where students and experts discussed conservation issues and the role of national parks. Many thanks to EcoFlight for providing us with this amazing opportunity!

As a way to facilitate open communication between home and school, we will host an
Osprey Parent Talk next Tuesday evening from 5:00 to 6:00 here at AHS. Join head of school Sean Woytek for a conversation about homework and work-life balance. Sean will share feedback we've received from students about their homework load and will share resources to support families in helping teens strike a balance between working hard and managing stress.
Wednesday morning, the
Parent Advisory Committee (PAC) meets at the Smiley Cafe from 8:30 to 9:30. Sean will share information and updates about our annual rating from the Colorado Department of Education, enrollment and the new intersection. AHS development director Ashley Hein will update PAC on plans for our annual fundraising event,
The Osprey Games, which will be on November 16 at the Henry Strater Theatre. Please come to PAC meeting or reach out to Ashley directly if you're available to help with The Osprey Games. It's our only major fundraiser of the year and there are plenty of ways, large and small, to get involved. You can contact Ashley at
development@animashighschool.com.

seniors Mikayla Wright and George McQuinn show their Osprey pride on Spirit Day |
We'll have a NEST Meeting next Wednesday morning, allowing staff to present the range of options available to students for
Osprey Week, which is March 20 through 24. Osprey Week choices will include a wide variety of activities and destinations, including backcountry skiing in the San Juan Mountains, camping and biking in Utah, exploring French food and film locally, visiting colleges in the Four Corners and much, much more. Students will select their top choices for Osprey Week on November 16; we'll send out descriptions on November 2 so families can talk over options together.
Wednesday evening, please plan to head over to the Underground at the Irish Embassy between 5:00 and 7:30 for the
Dia de los Muertos Exhibition from our Spanish 1 students, who will present crafts and food along with information about this important Mexican holiday. Also that night, AHS college counselor Jess Adams will present a
Scholarship and Financial Aid Information Session for seniors and their families from 5:00 to 7:00 at AHS.

Thursday, AHS will host a blood drive in the Commons from 12:00 to 4:30. At this time, all donor spots are filled, which is great news! Please check
here to see if additional time slots open up.
Finally, please remember that Monday is a Professional Development Day for our staff, and so there will be no school for students. Have a fun and safe Halloween, enjoy your long weekend and thanks for all you do to help the Ospreys soar!
