9th graders Julia Busnardo and Emerald Murray tackle the High V at the On the Edge ropes course
Greetings Osprey Community,

It was a beautiful day for the class of 2021's journey to the On the Edge ropes course in Bayfield this past Tuesday, where students worked together to accomplish a variety of physical challenges on the ground and high up among the treetops.  Thank you to AHS co-founders and Osprey parents Phil and Lucy Bryson for facilitating the days' activities.  Dusty took lots of fabulous photos, capturing big smiles from the day; check them out on the AHS Facebook page here.

Many thanks to all who reached out to our counselor, Erin Skyles, to express interest in joining our newly formed  Health and Wellness Committee. The group will have its first meeting next Monday from 5:00 to 6:30 in Jessica McCallum's classroom.  If you are still interested in getting involved, please join us Monday or email Erin at erin.skyles@animashighschool.com.

AHS juniors will take the PSAT/NMSQT next Wednesday morning, beginning at 8:30.  This exam is good practice for the SAT, which juniors will take on April 10, and is also the initial screening for the National Merit Scholarship Program.  College Board administers the test and will release scores on December 11.  We would love to see all juniors here on time, well rested and well fed next Wednesday morning.  To access practice tests, sample questions and Kahn Academy support, visit this page on the College Board website.  The day after the PSAT/NMSQT, on Thursday, juniors will head to Silverton for a Chemistry filed trip, where they will visit the Bonita Peak Mining District Superfund site, conduct field testing and engage in stewardship.

The  Osprey Parent Fall Hike is next Wednesday morning and folks will meet at the Purgatory Flats trailhead at 9:15.  If you would like to carpool, please email volunteer@animashighschool.com.  The AHS Board of Directors meets Wednesday evening from 5:30 to 7:30 on campus and all are welcome.

Second quarter begins Monday, October 16, and we will begin new XBlock classes on Wednesday, October 18.  As was the case with first quarter XBlock classes, some courses will require a fee and many will take place off campus. Stay tuned for finalized course offerings and sign ups, coming next week.

Please be sure to sign up for a Student-Led Conference time slot as soon as possible.  This letter, which we sent out to all students and families, has all the details about SLCs, which are on Wednesday, October 18.  Here are the links to the online sign ups:

Good luck to the AHS Mountain Biking Team in Nathrop this weekend where they have their final race of the regular season.

Enjoy the beautiful fall colors this weekend and  thanks for all you do to help the Ospreys soar!
