NEWS FROM THE NEST
April 10, 2015
Greetings Osprey Community,

Geology camping trip to Utah earlier this week
It's a busy and exciting time for students and teachers alike, with just six weeks until graduation.  Seniors are deep into their Senior Projects, developing college-level research papers and TED-talks for the community on individually-slected topics ranging the global impact of child marriage to the rising cost of higher education.  They are finalizing decisions about plans for next year, weighing options about which college is the best fit.  Thanks to amazing support from Kim, they have, as a class, earned over $3,000,000 in scholarships (!)--a truly staggering number.  As hard as it is to do, we're loosening our hold on them, getting ready to watch them fly.

Spring brings opportunities for the Ospreys to celebrate in style.  The AHS Prom will be on Saturday, April 25th at the DoubleTree Hotel; juniors and seniors can purchase tickets from Laurel at the front desk with cash (exact change, please!) or check.  Osprey parents Marla Stills and Sue Lawton are taking the lead on organizing an after-prom party at the Rec Center; read more below about ways you can help make that event a success.

Another exciting aspect of spring is our Bonanza process, where we invite teaching candidates to join us on campus for a full day.  Getting input from many perspectives is important to this process, and it helps ensure that we're finding top quality educators who fully embrace our unique culture and mission.  The Head of School candidates will have all Bonanzaed by the end of today ( join us tonight from 7-8pm in the AHS Commons for the community forum with our final candidate!), and next week, we'll begin welcoming candidates for teaching positions.  While it's always sad to say good-bye to those who are moving on to other adventures, we are honored and humbled by the quality of applicants we're seeing and excited about what our new staff members will contribute to our school next year.

The AHS Board Meeting scheduled for next Tuesday has been postponed until April 28th.  Osprey parent Jane Katz is serving as the PAC Representative to the Board, and is happy to hear bring questions and concerns from the parent perspective.  You can contact her at janeekatzz@gmail.com.  As a reminder, the AHS Board is looking for solid participation in the annual Parent Survey as a way to stay abreast of how we're doing as a school.  If you have not yet completed the survey, please do so now.  You can access the Parent Survey here.

Finally, a quick plea to our families to avoid using Wildcat Canyon Liquor's parking lot for student drop offs or pick ups for safety reasons.

Thanks for all you do to help the Ospreys soar!
