It's another happy Friday here at Anime Corner World Headquarters!

You know, the studios love hitting us with big new release announcements at the 11th hour, but credit to the RACS catalog team as they got it done and got them posted out to the store this morning in time for me to get them into the newsletter! They never let me down. ;-)

October Discotek Release Notes:

Discotek made a bunch of license announcements at Otakon over the weekend (see the news section below), and a few days later announced their October release slate which will be their first batch of new releases since July. There are notes on a couple of their October releases that I wanted to highlight:

For their re-release of When They Cry, they are going to release Season 1, Kai (Season 2) and Rei (Season 3) separately; unlike the previous Sentai release that included all three seasons together. They said the new releases will have "dramatically fixed" subtitles compared to previous English releases. Discotek also mentioned that its release of When They Cry Kai (Season 2) will also have better video quality than previous releases, while the quality for When They Cry Rei (Season 3) will remain "about the same" as previous releases.

For their release of the Urotsukidoji: Sequels of the Overfiend SD Blu-ray Disc collection, it will include the following Urotsukidoji works:

-Urotsukidōji II: Legend of the Demon Womb

-Urotsukidōji III: Return of the Overfiend

-Urotsukidōji IV: Inferno Road

-Chōjin Densetsu Urotsukidōji: Kyōō-hen Gekijō V2 Kyōya Majū-den (Lord of Chaos Theater V2: The Legend of Crazed Demon Beasts)

-Chōjin Densetsu Urotsukidōji: Kanketsu-hen (Urotsukidoji 5: The Final Chapter)

This release will include both the movie and two-episode OVA version of Urotsukidōji II, the movie and four-episode OVA version of Urotsukidōji III, and the movie and three-episode OVA version of Urotsukidōji IV. Now, we posted it as Japanese w/ English subtitles, however, the release will include the vintage English dubs of the movie version of Urotsukidōji II, the OVA version of Urotsukidōji III, and the edited OVA version of Urotsukidōji IV, as well as promos, "special erotic collections," liner notes, and several other extras. So officially sub only, but a few of the episodes will include the old dub as a bonus track.

Full Moon BD Replacements:

AnimEigo's recent release of the Looking for the Full Moon Vol #1 BLURAY went out with an editing glitch in episode 19 that caused most of the episode to be out of sync. When we were informed of the problem a few days ago we suspended shipments of the disk and reached out to Justin. They were already on it and had ordered a batch of corrected disks, which we should have in our hands in a couple of weeks. If you purchased the set from the RACS store there is nothing for you to do as we will automatically send you a replacement disk once they are available. Ordering and shipment of the set will also resume at that time.

Oreimo Sets Coming:

Just a heads up, we have a limited number of AniPlex USA's previously out of print North American release first and second season Oreimo BLURAY sets on the way to us. We are only getting in a couple dozen of each, and these sets will become available for order sometime next week once they arrive at our warehouse and are inspected and checked in.

A Note About Our Trade In Program:

Just a reminder about our trade in program that all materials sent in for trade in evaluation must meet our condition standards in order to qualify for credit. Items that fail to meet these standards will be disposed of unless you specifically request we return them to you ahead of time, in which case postage and processing for the returned materials will be deducted from your credit for that batch of trades. All material sent in for trade in credit has to be thoroughly inspected and tested by our staff, so please give us at least 1-2 weeks after your parcel arrives here to get your trade ins processed and your credit code issued.

WHAT'S NEW @ RACS THIS WEEK??

Lots of great new Anime arrivals in stock this week! We have the standard and limited editions of the No Longer Allowed in Another World Season 1 BLURAY, the One Piece Season 14 Part 6 DVD/BD Combo Set (Uncut) (Eps # 953-964), and the re-release of the Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation Season 1 BLURAY in from Crunchymation. Sentai sent us their How I Attended an All-Guy's Mixer BLURAY and the Kokoro Connect Complete TV + OVA Collection BLURAY (Re-Release) a little early. The RWBY Volume 2 BLURAY (Eps #1-12) finally arrived from Viz after a SNAFU with our original shipment. The Ghost in the Shell: SAC 2045 Season 2 Collectors Edition BLURAY arrived a little early and we also got in the The Daimajin Trilogy BLURAY (Live Action) from Arrow after several people requested we carry it.

We added another small batch of previously loved items to the store, and we also added the newly arrived Frieren Beyond Journey's End Original Soundtrack Vinyl LP to the music section.

And finally, I know you like to see new releases in the real so I had he crew take a warehouse photo of the newly arrived No Longer Allowed in Another World Season 1 BLURAY (Limited Edition). Isekai Shikkaku is a wacky story about a famous writer named Sensei who is about to accomplish his life ambition and commit double suicide with his lover Sacchan, but is instead hit by a truck and, of course, transported to another world. Deemed an adventurer by the local priestess Annette, Sensei is given the mission of slaying the demon king. Refusing to play into his new role, Sensei decides his efforts are better served looking for Sacchan in the hope that she is somewhere in this new world. The unlikely trio wander the dangerous, monster-infested lands, and soon realize that human beings might be the real threats to the peace of the world - and it turns out Sensei might be the only one with the power to stop them!

IN THE NEWS

Discotek made several announcements at Otakon last weekend (other than their October releases that have already been posted for pre-order here at RACS):

Discotek will release the first five Sgt. Frog anime films, which include Chō Gekijōban Keroro Gunsō, Chō Gekijōban Keroro Gunsō 2: Shinkai no Princess de Arimasu!, Chō Gekijōban Keroro Gunsō 3: Keroro Tai Keroro - Tenkū Daikessen de Arimasu!, Chō Gekijōban Keroro Gunsō Gekishin Dragon Warriors de Arimasu!, and Chō Gekijō-ban Keroro Gunsō Tanjō! Kyūkyoku Keroro Kiseki no Jikūjima de Arimasu!!. Discotek did not announce a release date.

Discotek will release the Zone of the Enders: Idolo OVA and the Zone of the Enders: Dolores,i television anime. The release will have Japanese audio, and the English dub from ADV's earlier release. Discotek will release more details on extras at a later time.

Discotek will release the Zegapain television anime series, the Zegapain ADP compilation film, and the 2024 Zegapain STA anime film. The release will have Japanese audio as well as the English dub from Elastic Media's earlier release of Zegapain. The release will include an extra disc entirely for extras.

Discotek will release the Digimon franchise's fourth, fifth, and sixth movies, which include Digimon 02: Revenge of Diaboromon, Digimon Tamers: The Adventurers' Battle, and Digimon Tamers Movie 6: The Runaway Digimon Express. The release's bonus features will include original promo videos and TV spots. Discotek did not reveal the release date.

Discotek will release the television anime adatation of Naoki Urasawa's Monster anime. The release will have all 74 episodes in HD, with Japanese audio and English subtitles, as well as an English dub. Discotek will release the anime in 2026.

Discotek will release Shin Ace o Nerae! (Shin Aim for the Ace!), Minoru Okazaki's 1978 remake of the Osamu Dezaki's 1973 Aim for the Ace! anime. The release will have Japanese audio with English subtitles in a two-disc release.

Discotek will have a new Blu-ray Disc steelbook release of Lupin III: The Castle of Cagliostro with a new English dub starring Tony Oliver, Richard Epcar, Michelle Ruff, and Doug Erholtz. The release will maintain "virtually [the] same" extras as Discotek's previous release.

Discotek will have a new release of the Project ARMS anime, with all 52 episodes in an SD Blu-ray Disc release. The release will include Japanese audio as well as the English dub from Viz Media's previous release. Discotek will reveal more extras for the release at a later date.

And finally, Discotek also announced that it has licensed the Kamen Rider Amazon, Kikaider 01, and Kamen Rider Stronger tokusatsu titles, as well as the Thai movies Bangkok Dangerous and SARS Wars: Bangkok Zombie Crisis.

Bandai Namco Filmworks announced on Sunday (August 10 is officially Patlabor Day in Japan) that the Patlabor: The Movie and Patlabor 2: The Movie films will have limited two-week revival screenings in Japan on October 3 and October 17, respectively. The films will also get 4K remastered releases on Ultra HD Blu-ray Disc and Blu-ray Disc, with English dub and English subtitles, in 2026. The first Patlabor film will be screened with the "Theatrical Release version audio," and a separate 4K version. The second film will also screen in 4K. The two films' UHD-BD releases will be fully remastered using 4K film scans, and will include a special booklet and a large collection of storyboards. The first film will launch on both UHD Blu-ray Disc and on regular Blu-ray Disc on January 28, 2026, and the second film will release in both formats on March 25, 2026.

Crunchyroll laid off an undisclosed number of employees in a restructuring effort that will see the creation of engineering hubs in the United States, Mexico and India as the company doubles down on growth in emerging markets. Bloomberg reported in December that Crunchyroll was planning a reorganization this year, making it at least the fourth round of layoffs at the company since it was acquired by Sony and merged with Funimation 2021.

A collection of anime television shows and films available during a Delta Air Lines flight from Minneapolis–Saint Paul to Tokyo–Haneda, Oct. 25, 2024. The airline’s new Delta Sync in-flight entertainment system will give millions of passengers access to more than 50,000 anime episodes and films under a deal with Crunchyroll. Delta Air Lines will add Crunchyroll as a content partner on its Delta Sync in-flight entertainment system, giving passengers of the Atlanta-based global carrier access to more than 2,000 anime titles, reports entertainment news outlet TheWrap. The deal will make Crunchyroll’s anime library available to up to 120 million members of Delta’s SkyMiles frequent flyer program, the world’s largest airline loyalty program.

Japanese mobile phone network operator NTT Docomo has spun off a subsidiary that is developing software incorporating generative artificial intelligence technology into the anime production process. In demonstrations with multiple anime studios, NTT Docomo says the software named Anicra delivered a 70 percent reduction in man-hours needed to complete certain in-between animation processes. The Nikkei financial newspaper reports that Anicra is generally available for use by anime studios in their production environments with software’s new operator CrestLab negotiating license cost on a case-by-case basis.

Anime startup Creator’s X has acquired anime studio Gaina—founded in 2014 as an independent Gainax offshoot named Fukushima Gainax—from the Kinoshita Group conglomerate and renamed it Benten Film. (Animation Business Journal). Creator’s X raised ¥110 million (US$744,000) in December in an effort to produce anime with the assistance of generative artificial intelligence technology, acquiring Nagoya-based anime studio K&K Design in the process.

Funko has appointed former Netflix executive Josh Simon as its new CEO and joins the board of directors, the company announced. Simon replaces interim CEO Michael Lunsford, who took over from former Wizards of the Coast President Cynthia Williams when she was let go in July. Simon was Vice President, Consumer Products at Netflix, where he oversaw its global merch business, live experiences, and the Roald Dahl Story Company. He comes in at a tough time; Funko lost $41 million in its most recent quarter.

The U.S. Postal Service on Friday announced plans to implement surcharges for package delivery during the peak holiday season to cover extra handling costs, a decision likely to stir more complaints from groups who say rates have been rising too fast. The surge pricing applies to Priority Mail Express, Priority Mail, Ground Advantage and Parcel Select products. Fees vary by distance shipped and weight, as well as for retail and commercial customers. The average increase for Priority Mail is 4.1%, with an average surcharge of 5.1% for Ground Advantage. A USPS Ground Advantage package going long distance, for example, could cost between 35 cents to $5.50 extra. Pending approval by the Postal Regulatory Commission, the temporary increases would begin at midnight on Oct. 5 and remain in place through Jan. 18.

This year's 16th issue of Hakusensha's Young Animal magazine revealed on Friday that the Berserk manga has 70 million copies in circulation (not sold) worldwide. The magazine also broke down the circulation numbers by language. The manga has 9 million copies in circulation in English, 8 million copies in circulation in French, and 5 million copies in circulation in Italian. Of those 70 million copies in circulation worldwide, 30 million are foreign editions released outside Japan.
