Store News and Tab Clearing
Bob
Well, we've certainly been going Mach 2 with our hair on fire for the past few days!

You all placed a ton of Anime orders with us between Thanksgiving and Cyber Monday, and we appreciate all the business everyone sent our way! We ran shifts at the fulfillment center the day after Thanksgiving, and also last Sunday to make sure all of your orders got processed and shipped as quickly as possible. Sorry there was no newsletter last week, but there was just no way, I was down on the floor picking and packaging with the rest of the crew. ;-)

While we did have a few stock outs, most of the those items where already in the pipeline and we have been able to clear almost all of the backlog during this past week. I think by today we will be around 98% of Black Friday orders shipped, and should be at 100% by Monday or Tuesday. Greatly appreciate everyone's patience while we try to ship some of these gigantic orders as complete as possible. :-)

RACS HOLIDAY SAVINGS!

We have kicked off our annual Barrage of Holiday Bargains and so far we've fired off four Salvo's of Anime savings with around 450 choice items deeply discounted through the month of December. In fact, we will be firing a salvo of great prices at you about every other day for the next couple of weeks! Some quantities are limited and some offers won't be in the lists for the entire time, so be sure to grab them before they are gone!

RACS newsletter subscribers can also save an additional 10% off the rest of the store using our CYBER2022 cyber week coupon, which is valid through Monday, December 5th. Minimum $123 order for the coupon offer. Just wanted to let you know that you can continue to use this offer through this weekend even though the banners for it will be coming down off the site later today. ;-)

CRUNCHYMATION - OUT OF PRINT

You may or may not have heard the rumors, but it is true the Crunchymation is quietly allowing some of their older catalog releases, especially Essentials and S.A.V.E editions, to fall out of print. Just this past week the Nichijou Essentials BD sold out of our stock and we found out we can no longer order more copies. I have a couple of ideas about what is behind this, and it doesn't seem to be about license expirations or re-releasing older Funimation titles with Crunchyroll box art. I'll have more on that in a future newsletter, along with lists of titles that look like they won't be avialable for much longer.

HOLIDAY SHIPPING DEADLINES

It's hard to believe that Thanksgiving has already come and gone, and Christmas is only three weeks away! We've already noticed USPS parcels starting to take a little longer to be delivered, and looking at the calendar I would say right now we'd like to see all super saver orders in to us no later than about Dec 9th for pre-Christmas delivery. I'll have more updates on this next week as we see how postal shipments are tracking across the country.

Priority mail and regular Ground parcels should get to you by Christmas so long as we get them shipped out no later than the 15th or 16th . The 19th will be the drop dead day for ground. After that it will start to get iffy so we will need to use an air shipping service if you need to be sure your RACS order will arrive on time.

For our customers outside of the US, regular airmail orders really need to be placed this weekend so we can get them into the system no later than Tuesday. Customs clearance delays are always the monkey in the wrench this time of year. After that, FedEx International shipments should be good for pre-Christmas delivery right up until around the 20th. If you use a freight forwarder, be sure to consult with them about processing and transit times and add how long it will take for your parcel to get from our warehouse to theirs.

STORE STUFF

What's been happening around here? Lets see, off the top of my head...

The new Irregular at Magic High School : Reminiscence Arc BLURAY that arrived from AniPlex last week promptly sold out over the holiday weekend, but we are expecting restocks to come in later today. The very late Lord El-Melloi II's Case Files [Rail Zeppelin] Grace note Special BLURAY from AniPlex should finally be hitting our dock today as well.

Media Blasters has rescheduled their release of the Knight Hunters Eternity BLURAY to Feb 21st.

We were informed by Kitty this week that their three newest naughty BD releases, Forbidden Love BLURAY (Adult), Sex Starved Nurses BLURAY (Adult) and the Sexual Conquests BLURAY (Adult) are all in replication and will be shipping - well, when they ship. Their replicator is pretty good, so if the yare a little late, I don't think these will miss their quoted release windows by more than a week or two.

We finally got the Do You Like Big Girls? #1 manga back in stock this week after being out of stock since August. A whole bunch of them came, I think I must have double or triple ordered them or something... ;-) If you have one on backorder it will be coming your way very soon.

Since the last newsletter we've had quite a few key releases hit the dock. The Carole & Tuesday BLURAY and the re-issue of Love, Election & Chocolate have arrived early from Sentai. We have the Gundam Build Divers Re:RISE (Season 2) BLURAY in from Sunrise and the The Irregular at Magic High School : Reminiscence Arc BLURAY in (and out) (and back in) from AniPlex. The standard and limited editions of both Banished From the Hero's Party I Decided to Live a Quiet Life in the Countryside and Mushoku Tensei Jobless Reincarnation Season 1 Part 1 are in early from Crunchymation, along with The Case Study of Vanitas Season 1 Part 1 BLURAY, the Drowning Sorrows in Raging Fire BLURAY, and the Love Live! Superstar!! Season 1 BLURAY

For upcoming Anime, we added the January release of the Sword Art Online the Movie Progressive Aria of a Starless Night BLURAY (Limited Edition) from AniPlex. There will be a bunch more new release stuff coming across the wire next week I think. Oh, we did get Crunchymation's Feb releases up on the site, I just forget to do a blog post about them. Here they are:

There are too many new manga in stock over the last two weeks to highlight them all - about 100 new volumes in stock I think - but arrivals have finally almost caught up with incoming shipments. Be sure to check here for all the new volumes that are now in stock!

And finally, our November figurine pre-order window has closed, but we have started to post the figurines in our December slate. The first 8 or 9 are up, and we'll be adding more over the next few days, so be sure to check them out! The pre-order window for this batch closes up on Dec 22nd.
LICENSE ANNOUNCEMENTS

GKIDS announced at its panel at Anime NYC that it has licensed Production I.G's Giovanni's Island anime film for North America. The company will release the film "on home entertainment platforms" this year.

Eleven Arts announced that it has licensed the anime film of Kana Ozawa's Blue Thermal -Aonagi Daigaku Taiiku-kai Kōkū-bu- (Aonagi College Sports Festival Aviation Club) manga. The film will have its North American premiere at the Anime Frontier event in Fort Worth, Texas in December.

HIDIVE announced that it acquired the anime of Aka Akasaka and Mengo Yokoyari's Oshi no Ko manga.

Kodansha USA came to Anime NYC with a full slate of announcements for Fall 2023, including new manga licenses and new formats for older series. New licenses include:

Miraculous: Tales of Ladybug and Cat Noir
Origin
Witch Hat Atelier Kitchen
The Darwin Incident
My Lovesick Life as a 1990s Otaku

The new licenses also included a yuri manga, The Moon on a Rainy Night, by Kuzushiro. Kodansha also had some new formats for existing titles: a deluxe edition of Vinland Saga that repackages the series as 3-in-1 hardcovers; Blue Period Box Set, which collects the first six volumes of the series, and Cells at Work! Omnibus, which bundles the original series into two three-in-one omnibus volumes. They also plan to re-issue the new translation of CLAMP’s Magic Knight Rayearth, originally published as a limited-edition box set, as less expensive paperbacks.

Yen Press announced new manga, manwha, webtoon, and light novel licenses at its AnimeNYC panel.

The new licenses included Higurashi When They Cry: GOU, by Ryukishi07 and Tomato Akase. Yen’s best-selling series is being collected in a box set: Toilet-Bound Hanako-Kun: First Stall, collects the first 10 volumes in a box that looks like a toilet stall. Two other existing properties are being re-released in omnibus format: Puella Magi Suzune Magica, originally released as three volumes in 2015-16, will be re-released as a single omnibus, and A Certain Magical Index: The Old Testament Omnibus Edition collects the 22-volume light novel series, as well as two volumes of short stories, in a single massive volume, much as Yen did with Spice and Wolf in 2016.

Other announcements included Scribbles, a collection of drawings by Kaoru Mori, the creator of Emma and A Bride’s Story; Sword Art Online Progressive Scherzo of Deep Night, a new installment of the long-running trapped-in-a-game series; Elden Ring: The Road to the Erdtree, a comedy/action series set in the world of the video game; and Appare-Ranman!, a 19th-century period piece in which a young mechanic and his samurai companion somehow end up competing in a cross-country automobile race in the U.S.

Yen also had several Korean titles to announce. Bloody Sweet is a vampire romance by NaRae Lee, the artist for Yen’s adaptations of Maximum Ride; the series, which runs as a webtoon in Korea, will be released under the Yen Press umbrella.

IN THE NEWS

The official website for the Kaguya-sama: Love is War anime began streaming a new trailer for Kaguya-sama wa Kokurasetai: First Kiss wa Owaranai (Kaguya-sama: Love is War -The First Kiss That Never Ends-), the anime film adapting the manga's story arc of the same name. The trailer reveals and previews the film's opening theme song "Love is Show" by Masayuki Suzuki featuring Reni Takagi. Suzuki has performed all the opening theme songs for the franchise's previous television series. In addition, Aniplex of America announced that the film will open in select U.S. theaters in February 2023.

Tsuburaya Productions announced that Fathom Events will screen Studio Khara's Shin Ultraman film in the United States on January 11 and 12.

The official website for Kodansha's Morning magazine and manga creator Kaoru Fukaya announced on Tuesday that Fukaya's Yomawari Neko (Nightwatch Cat) 8-panel manga is getting a television anime. Kodansha will reveal more details in the future.

AMC Networks' CEO Christina Spade has stepped down on Monday after less than three months in the role. The company is planning to lay off about 20% of its employees due to subscriber losses from cancellation of cable bundles in favor of streaming services. According to the company, its streaming services, such as AMC+, have not offset the cost of cable-cutting. AMC Networks acquired Sentai Holdings, LLC, which includes Sentai Filmworks and the HIDIVE streaming service, in January. The acquisition includes all of the member interests from Cool Japan Fund, Inc., a public-private Japanese investment fund.

Representatives from four entertainment industry lobby groups held a press conference to express their opposition to Japan's controversial new invoice system. Manga artist Reon Yutaka revealed worrying statistics based on a manga industry survey: 98% of respondents were sole proprietors, and among them 20.6% reported that they fear that the invoice system will force them to go out of business. Under the new system, which will take effect in October 2023, freelancers and sole proprietors will lose their tax-exempt status because invoices will be subject to consumption tax. Yutaka explained that manga artists face a difficult situation because royalties are unstable, while manuscript fees have flatlined due to the long-term stagnation of the Japanese economy and the recession in the publishing industry. She argued that if artists need to hire accountants and pay tax on their invoices, then they will be forced out of business.

The Japan Times reported on Thursday that NHK has asked Netflix to suspend distribution of all of its 22 titles after Netflix's launch of its new advertisement-supported subscription tier. Netflix removed advertisements for NHK programming on Wednesday and continues to stream the titles. According to The Japan Times, Netflix made a statement saying NHK had previously agreed to ad-supported streaming. NHK complained the ad-supported service was not what it had assumed it would be, and that Netflix did not explain the service to NHK until just before the service launched. NHK's policies under its internet-related service standards forbid licensors of its content to distribute said content if there is a possibility of creating a misconception that it is recommending or advertising a certain product or service. Netflix stated it is continuing discussions with the network.

The streamed Girls und Panzer 10th anniversary special debuted a teaser promotional video, teaser commercial, and teaser visuals for the fourth part in the six-part Girls und Panzer das Finale film series on Sunday. The teaser video confirmed that the fourth part will open in 2023.
