ODDS AND ENDS
We had to take a snow day last Friday, so we decided to run a fulfillment shift on Saturday morning. We managed to get caught up and we even trucked all the Postal parcels down the the regional mail center before they closed up at 2pm. I guess we just hate the thought of people having to wait for their orders to arrive. ;-)
We heard from Crunchymation's physical media division this week. They have decided to do what I predicted a year ago and finally move their physical media master distribution to SPHE (Sony Pictures Home Entertainment) over the course of March and April. This is why their Q1 new release schedule is currently so thin as they didn't want a lot of release overhead during the transition. I think the last title we will get from them under their legacy Funimation distribution regime will be Suzume and The Legendary Hero Is Dead. They seem to have the schedule for the transfer setup pretty tight though, but having been through this sorta thing many times over the years, I would expect there will be some short term supply chain interruptions for some Crunchymation releases during the months of March and April. We're going to pre-order a LOT of Suzume to make sure we have enough in the warehouse to keep it available for you thru the down time.
On the business end, aside from putting in place the final piece of their vertical Anime monopoly from localization to production to streaming to physical distribution to e-tail under Sony's North American flagship, this move will serve to tighten up their control over their downstream distribution, marketing and dealer network. And, it will give them more power to build a wider moat around their 'newly acquired' e-tailer division.
So here again, it is what it is. They are the king makers now.
I know the fan community has developed a very, umm, 'complex' relationship with them. These things only remind me that you had to throw the ring into the fire to see what was written on it. ;-)
We got both versions of Spy x Family Part 2 in early and we filled a ton of pre-orders for it yesterday, so there will be some nice surprises showing up on porches and in mailboxes a couple of days from now. :-)
By the Grace of the Gods Season 2 BLURAY ended up getting over bought in pre-order (or maybe under pressed) and was sold out in distribution as soon as the first batch shipped. We got enough to fill all pre-orders and few extra but they have been going fast and we 'might' get stocked out for a short time until the next batch comes in. We'll see.
A similar story has played out for he new JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: Stone Ocean Part 1 BLURAY (Limited Edition). It got allocated and we got in just enough this week to fill your pre-orders, but that was all. We have more copies coming in Monday or Tuesday (which might be all we're able to get), and we'll take it off pre-order status once the additional inventory is firmly in our control.
The next gigantic pre-order batch we need to fill will be for Bocchi The Rock! which is on the way and should be hitting the dock anytime now. We'll get those shipped out as soon as our copies arrive!
I believe shipment of the Jan 30th Discotek titles, which includes Kurokami, Lovely Complex, Lupin the 3rd: Sweet Lost Night, Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha, Ningen Fushin and Urusei Yatsura TV 4 are going to be cutting it close again this month, so I'm not sure if we will have them in stock in time to ship them before the street date. Again, we'll get them out to you as soon as they are in our hands.
And, we're working on getting the manga and lite novel new releases page caught up with all the new release books we've added to the store site since the holidays. Jan and Feb are all caught up and we should have the rest of March and April thru June listed out over the new few days.
STORE STUFF - WHAT'S NEW @ RACS THIS WEEK!!
New Anime in this week include the super early arrival of the standard and limited editions of the Spy x Family Part 2 DVD/BLURAY Combo Set from Crunchymation, and Giant Beasts of Ars Season 1 BLURAY and Tears to Tiara BLURAY in early from Sentai.
Viz's release of JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: Stone Ocean Part 1 BLURAY (Limited Edition) is in stock (we have a few), but we don't have enough to be comfortable taking the pre-order tab off it. We should be getting more either later today or Monday and then we'll announce it as in stock.
We got in two batches of new manga and books this week. New arrivals include Ascendance of a Bookworm , Part 5 Vol #1, [Novel], Executioner and Her Way of Life , Vol #4, Goblin Slayer Side Story Year One , Vol #10, The Ideal Sponger Life , Vol #15, My Senpai is Annoying , Vol #11 (Full Color), Tokyo Revengers Omnibus 9 (Vol #17-18), and many more!

LICENSE ANNOUNCEMENTS
Yen Press announced that it has licensed seven manga, one light novel series, and one artbook for release in July 2024:

IN THE NEWS
The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced on Tuesday that Hayao Miyazaki and Studio Ghibli's The Boy and the Heron film received a nomination for Best Animated Feature Film in the 96th Academy Awards. Elemental, Nimona, Robot Dreams, and Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse also received nods in the category. Godzilla Minus One's Takashi Yamazaki, Kiyoko Shibuya, Masaki Takahashi and Tatsuji Nojima received a nomination for Best Visual Effects, while Wim Wenders' Japanese film Perfect Days received a nomination for Best International Feature Film. The awards ceremony will take place at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood on March 10.
eBay began laying off around 1,000 employees, about 9% of its workforce, citing a challenging macroeconomic environment and the need to "better organize our teams for speed," CEO Jamie Iannone said in an email to employees this week. The company also plans to cut the number of contractors by an unspecified amount. For the first nine months of 2023, eBay reported $2.05 billion in net income from continuing operations on $7.55 billion in sales, both increases from the year ago period.
On December 15, the Sapporo Snow Festival announced the lineup for the large snow statues at the Sapporo Snow Festival 2024. Since then, there has been a slow trickle of announcements for smaller statues. On January 15, the official Twitter account for the Gundam Seed anime announced the series would be participating in this year's winter festivities. In a franchise first, Gundam Seed will display a bust of the Rising Freedom Gundam at the Winter Festival. While it's not stated if this is in conjunction with the release of the new film, Mobile Suit Gundam Seed FREEDOM, considering the film's release on January 26, it seems plausible. The Gundam Seed anime's official website also noted there will be a “special wrap booth” at the festival as well. Although there is no mention if this booth is going to be a pop-up store at the Sapporo Snow Festival, the fine print states the booth will be open as a store and for displays.
