SITE SEARCH UPDATE

We have implemented an update to the site search that fixed the issue of recent additions updating properly in the search index. We are still having a little trouble with search pulling in some old results that it should be filtering out, but we hope to get that resolved soon. Using specific key words, or accurate short phrases to search the RACS store will currently yield the best results.

FIGURE PRE-ORDERS RETURNING SOON

I wanted to give everyone an update as to what is going on with our figurine pre-order program, which has been on hiatus for a few weeks.

During the pandemic, there was a lot of consolidation on the back-end for Anime merchandise from Japan. There used to be three primary US based wholesale importers for Anime figurines for the North American market. These are the companies officially authorized by the Japanese manufacturers to import for US based dealers. If you are a US based Anime retailer that isn't a fly by night, you are 'encouraged' to use these sources by the Japanese manufacturers, and in fact, you have to in order to get certain official dealer certifications.

During the pandemic one of these companies dropped figurines completely and another one seriously curtailed the lines that they carry. With basically one company now holding sway over most of the North American wholesale market for Anime figures (except for basically Kotobukiya) the US based supply chain for figurines has become pretty unreliable. So I decided to suspend our pre-order program until we could look into sourcing entirely from Japan like we did back in the old days. Now, the Japanese manufacturers are really uptight about keeping US retailers inside the proper N/A distribution chain. They want to ensure Japanese retailers have exclusive sales periods for most new figurines and also control US pricing by setting North American costs a little higher than it is in Japan.

All that said, we have a solution that will allow us to have more selection, faster delivery, and lower prices on authentic Japanese Anime figurine releases. We should be able to begin offering pre-orders for figurines again next month, and I will keep you all updated once we get the program rebooted. :-)

STORE STUFF

We have a few new Anime releases in stock week. New stuff includes the Haikyu!! Season 4 Complete Premium Box Set BLURAY (Eps #1-25 + OVA's) and the Waccha PriMagi BLURAY from Sentai, and part 2 of Aoashi Season 1 from Crunchymation.

Notable Anime restocks in this week include the Gunbuster OVA Series BLURAY, which had the 1st pressing sell out in only a couple of weeks. We've got it back in stock and currently have plenty in the warehouse.

In new pre-orders we added Crunchymation's September slate of releases to the store. Those include Shinobi no Ittoki, The Girl from the Other Side OVA, One Piece Season 13 Part 3, AMAIM Warrior at the Borderline, and the long awaited Rent-A-Girlfriend Season 2 BLURAY.

On the adult side we added ASM's upcoming release of the Momiji Episodes #1-4 Collection BLURAY (Adult) which is due in on, or about, July 18th.

Now that Urusei Yatsura TV Part 2 BLURAY has arrived early and we can now watch up to about the halfway point of the original TV series, I wanted to share something RACS fan Sean sent over to me. This chart gives the correct viewing order for all the UY TV episodes and where the various OVA's and Movies fit into the continuity. I get asked this quite often, and I thought this would be handy guide to help you watch all the UY episodes in the correct order.

This weeks roster of date changes and new pre-order manga and lite novels posted to the store can be found here.

We posted a small batch of hand selected previously loved items to the pre-owned section. See below for that list.

And finally, we got more new figurines in this week. After filling pre-orders for this weeks arrivals, we have extras of two figures left over that we have added to the store site.

Be sure to check them out! :-)
NEW LICENSES / RELEASES

VIZ Media has announced an eclectic round of new licenses that includes a One Piece spinoff, a One Piece spinoff spinoff, new Pokemon Adventures, another horror title from Kazuo Umezz, and a new manga by the celebrated Taiyo Matsumoto, and more.

One Piece: Shokugeki no Sanji, by Food Wars creators Yuto Tsukuda and Shun Saeki, mashes up the two franchises in a single volume. Food Wars is a competitive cooking series set in a cooking school, but for this standalone volume, the creators set the competition in the world of Eiichiro Oda’s One Piece with Sanji, the Straw Hat Pirates’ cook, as the star. The 232-page paperback is scheduled for March 12, 2024.

Other new Viz titles include:

  • One Piece: Ace’s Story The Manga
  • Tokyo These Days
  • Pokémon Adventures: Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire
  • Steel of the Celestial Shadows

IN THE NEWS

After 15 years of pricing most of its manga at $9.99 per volume, VIZ Media appears to be raising the MSRP to $11.99 starting in January 2024 for both new series and new volumes of ongoing series. Shonen Jump titles and other series that would typically be priced at $9.99 are being listed at $11.99 after January 1 2024. That’s the case with My Hero Academia, for instance, with Vol. 36 listed at $9.99 in December 2023 and Vol. 37 at $11.99 in March 2024. The price holds for new series as well as new volumes of existing series. This represents a 20% increase in their standard pricing, but is still less than many publishers. Currently a standard volume of manga (other than omnibus or special editions) costs $12.99 for Kodansha titles, $12.99 for Yen Press titles, and $12.99 - $14.99 for titles from Seven Seas. It's interesting to note that VIZ has held the line for since 2009 when they increased the price for Shonen Jump and Shojo Beat manga, which had been $7.99 and $8.99 respectively, to $9.99, making that the standard price for a typical volume of Viz manga.

Fathom Events announced that it will screen the "Kimetsu Festival" stage-reading event under the title Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba ON STAGE for one night only in U.S. theaters on July 18 with English subtitles. Fathom Events describes the program:

The program covers the Mugen Train and Entertainment District arcs of the anime. The program stars Natsuki Hanae, Akari Kitō, Hiro Shimono, Yoshitsugu Matsuoka, Katsuyuki Konishi, and Satoshi Hino. Tickets are on sale now on Fathom Events' website.

TMS Entertainment and Bang Zoom! Studios announced on Friday that they will hold open auditions for a role in English dub for the television anime of Yoshifumi Tozuka's Undead Unluck manga at this year's Anime Expo event. The auditions will take place on July 4 from 10:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m. PDT in Main Events at the Los Angeles Convention Center. Interested fans are required to register and sign a waiver. The companies will randomly select applicants by registration number to audition during the time slot. People of all ages, genders, and skill levels are able to participate. Previous voice acting experience is not required. Bang Zoom! Studios will invite the selected finalist or finalists for a call-back audition.
