TAB CLEARING & STORE STUFF

Quick note for our EU customers. Starting November 1, product Identifiers (PIDs) will be required for all goods in shipments sold to non-VAT-registered recipients in the EU customs territory whenever the total shipment has an intrinsic value of EUR 150 or less. PIDs are product codes that help customs identify exactly what is being shipped (and of course, how to tax it). This is Europe's solution to the suspension of de minimis exemptions for small import shipments. My prediction is that for shipments to Europe this is going to be a real pain in the ass until everyone gets their systems online and will likely cause a lot of shipping delays. You can count on our team to do the export paperwork correctly, but I have little confidence that the customs officials in Europe will all be on the same page on Nov 1st. Very good of them to implement this just before the busy holiday season too. If you live in Europe try to shop your imports early this season and expect some delays and/or longer in transit times.

Now, lets get on to some store stuff. :-)

And finally, now that the Anime home video release schedule for 2026 is pretty much fleshed out, I ran a few numbers this week to compare 2025 vs 2026 YoY releases. US studios (localizers) always look at the market through the lens of what they are producing (they are all their own fiefdoms where the lords looking out from the castle towers can't really see beyond their own borders), but we see it from 30,000 ft so I was interested to know if US Anime home video releases had declined significantly this year.

Here's how the numbers I used broke down:

| Quarter | 2025 | 2026 |

| Q1 (Jan–Mar) | 68 | 58 |

| Q2 (Apr–Jun) | 63 | 39 |

| Q3 (Jul–Sep) | 90 | 74 |

| Q4 (Oct–Dec) | 98 | 67 |

| **Year total** |*319 |*238 |

2025 is the heavier year with Q4 2025 being the peak at 98. Then in early 2026 new releases took a hit with the post holiday issues with Discotek's distribution and Crunchymation significantly pulling back on new releases for the first 2 quarters. 2026 Q2 is the lightest quarter at only 39 new releases. Also, the 2026 Q3 bump includes the September Ghibli limited steelbook drop which accounts for 16 of the 74 releases. Now these numbers are only representative, not all inclusive, and are for Bluray releases only. Also, for our purposes, outright re-releases (meaning releases that are just re-SKU'd reprints of an older version, maybe with different cover art but no content changes) have to be accounted for . There were 12 outright re-releases in 2025 (around 4%) and 35 in 2026 (which is about 15%). Sentai's 2025 Armed Girl's Machiavellism BLURAY is counted as a straight up re-release, but Crunchymation's upcoming release of Let This Grieving Soul Retire Season 1 Complete Collection BLURAY isn't because they added a dub and it included the second half of the series episodes previously unreleased.

So is Anime home video in decline? Yes and no. I think the localizers that are still capable are producing as much material for home video releases as they can, but licensing seems to be the bottleneck. Sony and Netflix control the rights to such a large % of the available shows now that it's difficult for niche market companies to license a lot of material for home video release. Sentai and Discotek are still producing, but Discotek mostly focuses on older retro properties (which I love) and Sentai is increasingly remarketing older titles as re-releases of one sort or another. Crunchymation resumed a fairly normal home video release schedule towards the second half of 2026, but we are not sure how long that will continue as Sony still seems to want to move towards it's goal of reducing or eliminating physical media over the next 2-3 years. I think consumer demand will ultimately determine how that strategy plays out, and it's hard to say how it will specifically effect their Anime business. Viz has clearly dialed back it's commitment to the home video market with only a handful of new releases this past year, and their new wholesale pricing policy is, frankly, anti-small business. Ultra niche companies like Media Blasters and AnimEigo have mostly had to rely on re-releases of existing properties for their 2026 Anime slates, though John at Media Blasters has said they are committed to bringing new Anime shows to market in 2027. If anyone can make it happen, John can. He's been around this industry even longer than I have, and we both have the grey locks to prove it. ;-)

IN THE NEWS

FlatPanelsHD reports that Sony has stopped selling the UBP-X700/K in Japan, a refreshed UHD Blu-ray player launched in 2025 and the company’s first new model in the category since 2019. The development follows Sony ending production of recordable Blu-ray media and, earlier this year, announcing the phase-out of its Blu-ray recorder business with no successor models planned. If the UBP-X700/K does not return, PlayStation 5 consoles with disc drives would become Sony’s main remaining UHD Blu-ray playback option in Japan. However, a full global exit has not been confirmed, with Sony UHD Blu-ray players still listed in other markets.

The website for the television anime of Satsuki Nakamura's Though I Am an Inept Villainess (Futsutsuka na Akujo de wa Gozaimasu ga - Sūgū Chōso Torikae Den) light novel series revealed a teaser promotional video for the show's second cours (quarter of a year), titled "The First Royal Outing" arc. The second cours will debut in January 2027.

GKIDS announced that it will screen the live-action film of Tatsuki Fujimoto's "Look Back" one-shot in select theaters in North America on December 30 followed by a wider release in theaters on January 15. The film opened on September 11 in Japan at #5. The film earned 144,146,120 yen (about US929,800) in its first three days. GKIDS will release the film in theaters in the U.S., Canada, the U.K., and Ireland.

Thieves have stolen close to $1 million of PSA-graded Pokémon and sport cards off a FedEx truck in Santa Ana, California, according to CBS News Los Angeles. This theft was reported by PSA on October 13, 2026. Thieves removed two pallets from the FedEx truck, containing the cards, and "disrupted" a third pallet. The total estimated value of the theft was $963,000, according to a statement from the Santa Ana Police Department. This incident has sparked an elevated level of concern on social media amongst the TCG and sports card collector communities, as collectors who were victims of the theft starting posting what they had lost, which included serialized TCG cards and even claims of someone losing a rare Smaug card from Magic: The Gathering - The Hobbit as a result of the incident.

Seven Seas announced the following manga and light novel licenses:

• Sagrada Reset light novel
• The Mercenary Bomber Explodes All Cheaters manga
• Two Cats and a Dog full-color manga
• Miotsukushi: Backdoor Channels manga

The staff for Sunrise and Production I.G's Sōkō Kihei Votoms Haiiro no Hexe (Armored Trooper Votoms: Die Graue Hexe or literally, Armored Trooper Votoms: The Grey Witch), the two new anime films in the Armored Trooper Votoms franchise, unveiled a new teaser trailer for the films. The teaser reveals and previews the first film's theme song "Na mo Naki Shijin no Yō ni" (Like Some Nameless Poet) by Mika Nakashima. Toshihiko Takamizawa, the vocalist and guitarist for the band THE ALFEE, wrote, composed, and arranged the song.

CAPCOM revealed on Thursday that there was a data breach of its online membership account service CAPCOM ID. The company stated that a third party had unauthorized access to the service, which affected the email address records and system-specific identifier information (such as date/time of logins and account creation) for 11,777,247 people worldwide. Moreover, there were unauthorized changes to passwords for 196 accounts and 43 instances of unauthorized access to personal records such as date of birth, gender, country, and nickname. CAPCOM has not confirmed any compromise for passwords originally set by customers, and affected passwords have already been reset. The company added that no credit card information was affected.

Bandai Namco Filmworks, Inc. announced, at New York Comic Con 2026, that Mobile Suit Gundam Seed Freedom Zero will be heading to North American theaters in February 2027. This is the prequel movie to Mobile Suit Gundam Seed Freedom, and will feature Matthew Erickson, Matt Hill and Sam Vincent as voice actors in the English-language version.

Netflix has replaced its Chief Content Officer Bela Bajaria with former Disney and Fox executive Peter Rice. The service has also laid off about 1,000 employees, or 6% of its company. Among those laid off include unscripted casting and development team executives. Netflix's co-founder and former chairman of the board Reed Hastings left the company in June. Hastings and Marc Randolph co-founded Netflix in 1997, and the company first offered DVD rentals via mail to customers, before transitioning to streaming. Hastings stepped down from his position as co-CEO in January 2023, and began serving as Netflix's executive chairman. Netflix then appointed Greg Peters as co-CEO to serve alongside Ted Sarandos.

Film giant Toho saw overseas anime streaming revenue jump more than 62 percent year-over-year to a record ¥9 billion (US$57 million) for the six months ended in August, the company said in its mid-year earnings presentation last week. Domestic anime streaming revenue slipped almost 6 percent year-over-year to ¥5.5 billion (US$35 million), though it was offset by a 13 percent rise in character licensing revenue at home. Cumulative revenue from Toho’s anime and Godzilla IP segment reached a record high in the same period, climbing more than 15 percent, but upfront investments in IP squeezed operating profit by 44 percent.

Comic Market vendors are facing pressure to increase dōjinshi—self-published zines and fan-created manga—prices as Japanese offset printers see printing costs such as raw materials and labor rise more than 40 percent since 2020.

Japanese e-book distribution giant Media Do wants to double the translation output of Seven Seas Entertainment, the North American manga and light novel publisher it acquired earlier this year, to more than 2,000 books annually by 2030. Media Do completed the Seven Seas acquisition with ¥12.4 billion (US$78 million) in bank loans, and it’s eager to prove to investors that the purchase was worth the company taking on that much debt. Just six weeks after the Seven Seas deal was announced, a selloff by nervous investors caused Media Do’s share price on the Tokyo Stock Exchange to fall by more than 20 percent, where it still hovers today.

A wave of large cyberattacks that have exposed millions of consumers’ personal data at Japanese companies is spreading to domestic e-commerce sites selling anime and manga products. Japan’s anime and manga platforms have long existed in their own Internet ecosystem, but the growing global popularity of both mediums means more visitors are accessing their websites seeking content not available overseas. NTT Solmare on Thursday voluntarily took down Comic C’moA, one of Japan’s largest digital manga and e-book platforms with 40 million monthly active users, for security updates after the company identified a data breach. E-book distributor Papyless similarly took down both the Japanese- and English-language websites of Renta!, Japan’s oldest digital manga service, after it found a breach on Sunday. On Wednesday, Dai Nippon Printing began blocking non-Japanese IP addresses from accessing its e-book marketplace Honto after a data breach was identified at email campaign software vendor Ymirlink. Anime and manga retailers Animate, Gamers, and Melonbooks also blocked non-Japanese IP addresses from accessing their online stores while security updates are being made, though no data breaches have been reported.

duplicate and even improve on them!

So, even though his classless status will make it harder to gain acceptance with the guilds and prove himself, Arel will only work harder to become the best he can be in Hero Without a Class: Who Even Needs Skills?

Tower of God , Vol #6, Graphic Novel

FEATURED NEW ARRIVAL:

Takumi is an otaku, or pop-culture nerd, who

specializes in pop-idol bands.

He's well-known online for his devotion and passion. That same passion also gets him in a bit of trouble, now and then, as it makes him an easy target for macho bullies who feel pop-idols may not be for men. Misaki is one of those guys who looks down on otaku. But he has a bit of a secret--he also likes idols.

When Takumi uncovers Misaki's secret, will Misaki embrace the otaku world, and does Takumi have what it takes to be Misaki's idol?
